Some recent submissions, and purchases in my dime collection

LanLordLanLord Posts: 11,723 ✭✭✭✭✭
I usually don't do posts like this, but I thought it might be interesting.

A few years ago I started picking up Lib Seated dimes. Mostly raw purchases, but a couple were bought entombed. The raw coins I decided to send in a couple at a time starting a few months ago.

I have a bunch more to go and will keep the submissions going.

Here are the current results of what I have. I wish I had pics because some are really gorgeous, but I image coins horribly, so ... you will just have to take my word for it.

There are two different Seated 1839 o dimes because they have different sized mint marks and I thought that was pretty cool.

One day I may actually finish this collection as well as my capped bust half set.

Nawwwwww, it will never be done.

The Seated dime tends to be heavily populated by variety collectors. There are a lot of interesting die marriages.

I mostly collect proofs when I can locate great ones. I would love to see a pic of your 1869 Gem if you get a chance.

O.K. - I don't care if they are crummy pictures or not. I really want to see your 1809 and 1811. Those are two awesome coins.

That is actually one I have a pic of, it was taken by Mark Feld.

I don't think most people realize just how hard those two coins are to find in that look. Very nice.

I bought the 1809 and 1811/09 on a lark together in the same purchase. I think I lucked out. I've looked at both dates a lot in the years since I bought them and haven't seen much that compare in the grade.

What confuses and sorta ticks me off is the prices shown in almost all guides for those is WAY low. You can't touch them for the prices in most guides.

I'll add the lousy ones I have. These are the least objectionable that I have. The colour and "look" just really aren't as nice as the actual coin. I really wish I could image the 1881 ms65. It's just amazing (to me - probably because it's mine).

I just noticed that the 1846 isn't on the list. It's still to be submitted. Sorry.

guides are becoming quite useless. One even needs to be careful about using recent auction results. Quality of the coins in recent auctions may or may not be the same for a coin on which a price is sought. Comparing apples to apples is a challenge smoetimes.
