A disappointing change at MCM

What a difference a couple of months make!

My last buy at MCM was an PCGS MS-69 DMPL Saratoga ATB for around $173.

Now, the Shawnee Forest ATBs (with a much higher mintage, BTW) graded by PCGS as MS-69 DMPL is listed @ $222 (without the Mercanti sig).

Just a heads-up, for those who may be interested.

Has their business model changed? Very disappointing!

Even with higher silver prices that seems like quite a price jump. Is it possible that MS-69 DMPL's are harder to come by because PCGS has slightly tightened their grading standards or the quality of ATB's coming from the mint has dropped slightly? It may just be a case of supply and demand with a lower supply combined with a level or slightly higher demand. There are other dealers that sell these coins so MCM needs to be competitive in the marketplace so it's unlikely their price increase was arbitrary. If you wait awhile the price may come down but then again it may rise. How lucky do you feel?

Come to expect getting shaved, dealing with some providers of products on the market, today. Gas is under two bucks and you know what's under a buck ? One nut. That's right.

They're testing the market IMO. Price x volume - I think the latter will suffer too much. I generally get the ebay sales, but they are not constant and you can't count on a specific issue. Remember getting the 2015 Britannia Plain fields in MS69 @ 69.95 w/ no shipping most recently.

Are their prices now significantly over market or were they significantly below market before. Or do they make the market?

Higher prices means your stack goes up in value.

NGC Shawnees are about $160 and raws are under $100 each. I think the PCGS premium is a supply/demand issue.

Meanwhiile, Saratoga MS69's are now fetching upwards of $300 each on eBay.

On the supply side Saratoga shows 471 available in PCGS 69DMPL with Shawnee currently at 298 in the same grade. Perhaps the Shawnee price will come down later this year as the pops grow?
