To "crack out" or not to "crack out"

No it's not what you think. But I thought I could get everyone's attention better with this thread title. I have a lucite cube,2 3/4 x 2 3/4 x 1 inch thick. It is from a bank with the date 1968,quarter century club. It contains a 1968 quarter. Looks BU to me (as always condition views debatable). Also it houses an egg timer. Best to keep as is? Sorry for no photos, still trying to find the time to learn the ropes of my camera and scanner. Thanks in advance for your views.

What do you want, the quarter or the egg timer?

leave as is and buy an egg time on ebay.

I have a number of those Lucite encapsulated coin items, perhaps more than I should, but I have never been convinced that you can remove the encapsulated coins, at least without rendering them completely useless. I have never tried to remove a coin from one of them, and remain content to keep them as curiosities, paper weights, or whatever. Is a BU 1968 quarter really worth the time and effort? I suspect that an egg timer is not.

Egg timers in lucite I'm not sure about but acetone will work better than shattering that chunk, to get the quarter.

Although I do not think it worth the effort.... acetone will dissolve the lucite...Might need quite

    a bit though....Cheers, RickO

I have some coin paperweights that I'd never think of destroying - and one has a nice cameo Franklin. It would probably damage the coins.

Alas, they don't measure the passing of time.

Sounds like you will end up with a mess of goo.

Leave it alone. Why would you want to destroy it to have a 1968 quarter?
