When I was at FUN this year I spoke with a couple of 30 somethings who said a group of them ( 20 or more) routinely get together for meals at these big shows and they have a waiting list of others their approximate age group who want to join them.
I manage money. I earn money. I save money . I give away money. I collect money. I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
I see racial diversity mentioned since I posted.... Again, when I lived in WA state and attended
many shows (almost monthly) of various sizes... I observed a generous mixture of races... Asians, South Sea Islanders, African Americans ... even a couple of Native Americans... While by no means a majority, in that area it was common. Much may depend on geographic diversity as well....The Seattle area is a very diverse region. Cheers, RickO
Didn't want to tell you guys this story because it always bothers me to relay other's life tales with the public. It's like any business. The right to privacy. Except in a few cases. However, a few weeks ago, one of the more astute and SERIOUS collectors who's interest are Secure Plus coins from the Third Reich in PCGS holders was in the shop. That aside, he loves the term "dreck and schlock" and everything except what he likes and SILVER are mostly his passion, he will refer to as such.
Well he says, "why do you have all this dreck ?" Referring to the new modern presidentials, NP quarters barring last year, etc.,
What could i say as a shop owner ? I felt kind of sad when he left because if he'd waited another 20 minutes, a couple in their 70's came in to buy 48 different modern quarters for their grandsons who really love them. Shocking as this may read to some, there was a sense of relief, even though it was rare, it happened so soon after I "felt" a bit of remorse for a few minutes (not that the market is bad , but that a young vibrant , intellectual manager who loves coins could not see the need for carrying "schlock and dreck"
I never let others' view or verbiage get in the way of the coin facts. This hobby is only stronger with the passage of time.
