Paypal is a great business partner

ctf_error_coinsctf_error_coins Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭✭
Paypal has always taken care of me.

Most recently I sold $650 worth of coins off of my website. This turned out to be a fraudulent transaction and a CC chargeback came in. Paypal took the hit because I used a tracking number which got delivered.

While they were investigating, another chargeback came in for an eBay transaction that happened earlier (around $50) from the same person but a different address (unnoticed by me). I had given a link to my website and a business card with the shipped coin. What a scammer. Paypal covered this one as well.

They have covered me others times in the past as well.

Paypal has given loans to cover their holds.

Some here badmouth Paypal.

I just wanted to let you all know Paypal is an awesome business partner with great customer service.

It makes that 3% transaction fee well worth it.
  • ctf_error_coinsctf_error_coins Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Absolutely.

In the old days you got a transaction fee AND a monthly SERVICE FEE and you had to Buy or Rent up to date Equipment.

Plus NOT having to deal with checks.

Ya, Paypal is awesome. Gladly pay 3%

Agree. Over the years they have reimbursed me over $7K due to bad buyers. One alone was for $2,800 bought with a stolen CC number used via paypal.

They really should issue press releases and publicize their successful prosecution of the thieves.

I have not expreienced any negative transactions with paypal, thankfully, but that 3% does give me assurance on future transactions.

In 10 years of eBay selling I have had 6 charge backs.

Pay pal backed up 5 easily within 30 days and one they made good with a phone call.

I use Paypal or amazon payments only as a seller.

overall I think Paypal is a good value for what it offers.

Well, I like the overall concept of PayPal, and I have used them since the beginning. For the most part, they are a good business partner. Actually, the way eBay is setup, you MUST use PayPal if you plan to buy and sell in volume.

However, PayPal is only an "awesome business partner" when things are running on autopilot. As soon as they get you in their cross hairs, you are toast.

Right after you posted this thread, I received an email from PayPal saying that they are limiting my account. The reason? They would not specifically say, other than that they are like a bank and they need to verify that I am who I say I am.

So, they ask that I upload files to prove that I am a legitimate business. Keep in mind that while I am uploading files, I find that their requests are poorly stated and vague. I called PayPal to have them clarify what they want and one rep told me what to upload. I comply and upload my local business license, my reseller's permit for California, and my Articles of Incorporation.

It has been over a week and my account is still locked. I sell a lot on eBay, and now I cannot ship via eBay because I cannot pay for the postage via PayPal, and there is no other option; you must have a PayPal account to use eBay shipping.

We are going to lose our 20% discount and top rated seller status since we cannot get all of the shipping done within the 24 hour time frame that is required. We have to manually ship each package and manually add tracking information.

Worse than that is that they froze my funds so I cannot access it. As a small business, I rely on that money to pay for payroll, rent, utilities, etc. In my physical store, I take credit cards via PayPal Here swiper. Those dollars are also being detained.

It has been a nightmare. By the way, you cannot contact a person at the "limitations department," with the exception of emails that go unanswered. The main PayPal office reps told me that they cannot even contact the limitations group by phone. It is some sort of office in Washington that has Federal oversight or something. Really, really nasty situation.

PayPal told me that I was lucky compared to others. For some, the completely freeze the account (money in and out). Many have been forced out of business and lives have been negatively impacted. And for what? So they can review my business documents? I am squeaky clean when it comes to accounting and regulations.

At this time, I can receive payments, but the money cannot move out. I even asked if they could at least let me pay for postage via eBay. What could that hurt, right? They said absolutely not.

I could go on and on about this issue, but you get the point. As of today, PayPal is the worst business partner that I have.

WOW - PayPal used to do that kind of crap when they first started, but I haven't heard a report like that in years.

    Sorry that happened to you.

Actually, I do have two eBay accounts and two PayPal accounts. One for personal and one for business. They froze my business account.

Ironically, I am told by outsiders that they froze my account because I have two accounts. Apparently, you are only allowed to have one PayPal account.

I have had 2 paypal accounts for years, never an issue.

I also have created and closed other accounts, as they help my tracking of funds. For example, when I was selling off assets from my dad's estate, I set up a new ebay and paypal account, and when I was done, I closed them down. When my mom went to senior living, and I had to help her clear out her stuff, same story. I bought a house to flip it, and set up accounts to handle all the buy (and actually some selling of stuff from the house) etc.

One time, paypal went to bat for me, on about a $400 +/- purchase of coins off of ebay. I was living in California, temporarily, and my wife was in Texas. The coins went to Texas, since that was the account I was using. She got an empty box. Fortunately, the box had stickers from the Post Office stating that is was shipped without content. I guess they know the tare weight of their boxes, and if the shipped weight and tare weight are the same, it gets stickered. Anyway, my wife sent me some pictures of the unopened box, and stickers, I immediately contacted payola and then seller. I had bought about 6 coins, out of about 30 he was auctioning. Paypal put a hold on the money. I got a note from the seller, asking for the pictures, which I did. Then in 2 days, I got a note from the seller asking me to drop the action with paypal (????), which I declined. I then got a LONG, mostly profanity, email about how his account was locked for the amount of the transaction (OK, that makes sense) and comments that bordered on threats, as he was a police officer, and he would basically make my life miserable if I did not drop the action with paypal. Never did he address the empty box or a refund. Fortunately, we have friends in the police department, so my wife was not "worried"

Paypal refunded my money in 72 hours, and I got another long profane email from the seller, and I blocked him at that point.

Hop on the Stamps.com FREE ebay seller app for shipping. It can save your bacon when feepay / PP shipping is down, slow, or as in your case, having PP take a dump on you.

PP is great compared to what other credit card processor that include anti-fraud measures that you control?????

    Fantastic suggestion.

I called eBay after this happened and asked them what other options were available to ship within eBay. I was told that PayPal was the only option, and that I had to manually ship each package, and manually add tracking information. USPS.com does not have an option for 1st class, so I was told that I should go to the local post office each day and ship 1st class packages that way.

Years ago I had a stamps.com account, but I totally forgot about that option, and I was not aware of their integration with eBay.

    Thanks ebaytrader!

I don't know whether Dennis (numisma) remembers, but way back when we had a company together, practically the only time we accepted a PayPal transaction, we got completely burned to the tune of something like $160. A buyer bought something on eBay (naturally), PayPal-ed, and claimed the item was junk and wanted to return it. You can guess the rest - we refunded but never received the return, and PayPal sided with the buyer.

From that day forward, I've been unable to stomach PayPal. (However, I'm glad if you have had nothing but great luck with them.)

The nightmare continues. Now we are at $8,000 incoming funds, but cannot access the funds at all. Tomorrow I am going to cancel all of my eBay auctions and listings. I am done with eBay because they FORCE me to take PayPal. I tried to edit a listing tonight for check/money order, but they will not allow it.

After further research, I have learned that I am not alone in this situation. Just Google "paypal account limitation" and read the CURRENT horror stories. Sorry to hijack this thread, but it seems appropriate to make everyone aware. Ironically, when I first read this thread, I was going to post in agreement with the OP. Be careful out there my friends.

My tracking number showed delivered, too. Ebay still gave the guy his money back. Fraud occurs daily, I don't care who your partner is. Ebay is threatening to hold my money up to 21 days in collusion with them. It's MY money, sonny.

Grreat job paypal! I too like them as I have been buying and selling coins on fleabay since 2004. At first I did not use them way back when, I had to collect checks and then wait for them to clear before sending out. But paypal took care of all that and i was glad to pay the fees.
