This is a newbie auction question. When wanting to view coins before an auction are they displayed as a group or do you have to specifically request which lots you wish to review ? Thanks

At the major auctions most lots are in boxes. The boxes are marked with a sequence of numbers and you fill out a sheet that requests the boxes you would like to see. The auction clerks get the boxes you want, when they are available, and you go though them.

Some very expensive lots require a special request. The auction management must get those lots for you.

Some small auctions have the material laid out in cases, and ask to look at them. I have not been to a small auction in many years, so things might have changed there.
