Happy 30th Anniversary PCGS

If I am not mistaken, PCGS started on 3 February 1986. So...Happy Anniversary PCGS!

David Hall was a visionary and I congratulate him on the success!

I remember being in Hawaii at the time and having to submit through dealers on 'the mainland.'

Where does the time go? In 1986 I was in my dormant status as a coin collector, and seeing one of these new fangled "holders" rekindled my interest in 92' when I got back to the CONUS from my first European tour. The PCGS slabs have made some improvements (improved holders versus 1st Generation) and taken some steps back ( three finger gasket image ) through the years.

Congrats and another Thank you for CoinFacts!

Does anyone know what the very first coin that was graded and slabbed was? Is it still in its original slab?

there was a thread that mentioned it recently. i think it was a white insert rattler with some pics from a show of a display for them.

gratz pcgs, 1,000,000 collectibles certified per year average with countless more in details/counterfeit etc. probably another 20% on top of everything.

I started collecting coins about 30 years ago, but had no idea what PCGS was at the time.

My first PCGS coin was an 1880 S Morgan dollar MS63 with a chocolate brown crescent rainbow on the upper left obverse. Beautiful coin that I wish I still owned!

Au contraire. The current prong holders are the best PCGS has ever made. Kudos!
