Submitting GSA Hoard CC Morgans

What is the preferred way to submit GSA Hoard Morgans for grading?

I've seen some graded in the GSA plastic.

Crack them? Leave them raw and unmolested? or have graded with holder?

I have an 1884 CC Morgan with box, certification etc..

Mine is a solid MS64 with a shot at MS65, and I want to test my grading skills.

What is the best grade you have recieved?

    .

i think pcgs, ngc and anacs certify them in-holder.

check out images for each and decide what you like best vs fees etc.

    ive never submitted a gsa.

I use NGC for GSA coins.

    The market likes them better.

Do not throw away the boxes or cards. Folks who want graded GSAs usually want a box and cards too.
    When in doubt, don't.

My CC Morgan has a small carbon spot on the chin and a smaller carbon spot on the reverse wing. If I go the NGC route, should I consider NCS conservation or just let it be?

this might be true for some of the coins, some better dates or if you're in love with the whole history involved, but many, many of the coins themselves are common dogs that don't benefit from being in the holder.

ive gotten a couple of ms66's but "getting them" is really because they deserved it.

may the fonz be with you...always...

NGC can't conserve in the holder so don't even consider that. Small carbon spots, unless in a focal point, will not hurt the value. Get it graded as it is.

I have several of these as well, do you think getting them graded is worth the price of the grading process?

Depends on the dates (82-84?) and grades. If any have a shot at 65, definitely.

Otherwise it depends on what you paid for them. Not much of a price spread between 62 and 64 82-84 CCs.
MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

My friend went to a dealer and he passed on a $200 offer. Even with the recent auction results staring both of us in the face, I was bit too eager and gave him $275. He dad had bought them in the 1980's. He has a few more that I'll probably get a chance to buy at some point. It helped him out and I got a nice CC Morgan. I'll take some images this weekend and post it so some of you can guess the grade.

I have submitted 2 to NGC. An '82 and an '84, the '82 came back in a 66 holder and the '84 came back in a 65 holder. I was very happy with the results, they were exactly what I had expected. The best part is they can go right back into their original homes inside the original boxes.

    I submitted an 1882-CC in the GSA holder;

Came back in a nice large PCGS "Slab", MS-67.

The cheek was very clean and smooth - I knew

it would 6, and thought it had a pretty good

    shot at 7.

    Sold it at FUN.

PCGs sevens do not seem to bring as much money as NGC in my experience

I keep all my GSA coins in their original holder... Seems a waste to send them for grading

since most are not exceptional. I agree with keets... unless rare/exceptional, keep them as is.

    Cheers, RickO

If you are not positive it will go 65 or higher, there is no reason to send them in for grading. Also, who is the dealer buying these for $200 each? Furthermore, who is the guy buying them for $275. Boy do I have some deals for you!

    Update....

I sent my GSA Hoard 1884 CC Morgan in a couple weeks ago.

I elected to go with PCGS as opposed to NGC and it graded MS 66.

    SWEET!

Not bad for $275+ grading fees.

Here is the True View. I thought the Carbon spot on the cheek would hurt the score.
