Finally found a decent 42-S Walker!

ElmerFusterpuckElmerFusterpuck Posts: 4,768 ✭✭✭✭✭
This one caught my eye in a recent auction, since it had a decent hand/thumb AND some feathers on the left leg of the eagle, and a decent strike overall. Doesn't hurt that the fields are clean and the luster is good. Guess I'm resigned to the fact that these won't look like the 42-P!

Very nice, good strike and nice clean surfaces.

As nice as I have seen, and if Andrew likes it, you got a good one !

Although sharply struck over the majority of the surfaces, the hand detail

is still lacking, as far as I can determine. Nice full head though, as well as skirt

lines and the Eagle's feathers. I should study this series more if I decide to get

back into it. Thanks for sharing.

That's really terrific luster with super clean fields and even a bit of a ring of color around the rims. Looks like a great coin.

Impeccable luster and surfaces with a good strike throughout.

Only the right facing hand and thumb are soft, which is clearly typical for the issue.

They don't get much better than this. Good grade, too, with CAC to boot. Congrats!

Very nice coin, and upon first glance of that obverse I would assume it was a weak 42 philly.

    Date comes poorly struck.

Yours has exceptional head detail. Not a lot of planchet noise on Liberty's hip. One full branch line and a bit of hand detail.

Eagle's left leg detail is as good as it typically gets for this issue. Also, again, not a lot of planchet noise on the leg.

Because your user ID is so unusual, I can remember you posting numerous coins that show a great eye.

This tough late date S mint WLH is no exception.

    Congratulations.

Thanks for all the props! As for what is going on under the eagle from the claw appears to be a die crack under a glass. Not really all the obvious in hand, but much more so in the image since the light is hitting it just right.

What's even better is that I got this one for about half of guide, after the juice. Either I lucked out or this particular segment is a bit weak.
