I made a HUGE submission error on the form...

Hello all,

Any of you that know me know I "play the game" of submitting for grading, usually via cross overs of PCI toners.

Well, this time I forgot something completely vital on the form. For all 23 beautiful mostly monster PIC toners, I forgot to put in the min grade of "60+"...instead, I guess I was in a hurry and left that field blank. (It was only one field on one line since I submitted all the toners as a one line item on the form...or maybe I would have caught my oversight as I manually penned the order on the form, you know?). As such, only 6 crossed. Which of course is no surprise given the source of the grades...but as anyone who specializes in toning knows, the grade of PCI eagle rainbows crossing over is not as important as the fact they get into a PCGS numerically graded holder in any 60+ grade.

I called PCGS right away and talked with a couple of very nice people in charge, but they said they could not help me in any way. I would have to just re-submit if I chose to and pay all the fees again. While I understand completely, I was hoping and praying I could catch a "brain fart" break and I would be allowed to resubmit for free, less s/h/i both ways of course.

I am just sick. Anyway, I am not really asking anyone here specifically anything, just venting about my huge financial mistake.

Thanks for reading. I guess words of condolence would be welcomed, as I have the huge knot in the pit of my stomach...you know the one you get when you are completely responsible for your own mistake and there is no going back in time for a redo. :/

Doug

Been there...done that...paid the "stupid tax".

Looking forward to those that did "make the grade".

You are talking $272 in fees, right? That is not that much to get worked up over.

Doug, Did you have reason to believe that there were some that wouldn't make the grade? I'm

surprised there were that many that got kicked. All ASEs ? If they all were mint state, they may have got

kicked even with the min grade. I'm stumped as I haven't had one not cross. Sorry for the news.

I was not even aware they allowed PCI crossovers - do you get a higher percentage with grades when they see them in the PCI slabs?

My experience is the PCIs rarely cross at the same or higher grade (based on my 60+ results in the past, comparing the pci labels to the crossed pcgs grade). That's why I don't take a chance and put the minimum "60+" in that column of the form. The money is in the toning, not the grade, so long as it is above 60, imo.

Well, it's fees and shipping and time and just mad at myself. I am not a really wealthy guy so it does hurt money wise...I'm not getting salty with you about the money, just mad at myself.

Yes, Pcgs allows crossover attempts with PCIs.

That's a tough one, Doug. Sorry to hear about it.

I guess I'm not surprised by PCGS's stance. No doubt they deal with this sort of thing all the time and the only sensible thing to do is play by the rules.

We've all made mistakes. You're in good company. Try to put it out of your mind and not dwell on it. Nothing to be gained.

Sorry to hear about that. I think we have all done similar things at times. Consider that a "sunk cost" as the econs say. I'm sure you'll be double checking those forms from here on!

Ouch! I messed up with 1 toner .... ONCE and learned my lesson. In my case the coin was in an NGC Holder with QA sticker. It was returned to me in a genuine holder. I sold the coin. It then took the new owner two additional submissions in order to get it in a holder. I won't make that mistake of losing a perfectly good holder AND sticker ever again! The fastest way to learn is the hard way, that's for sure! Sorry to hear you went through the trouble.

Unfortunately PCGS did the work and provided the service so you can't really expect them to do it over for free.

But it is a pretty expensive lesson for just omitting three characters "60+"image

At least you know PCGS didn't think they should get a 60+ grade, so maybe not resubmitting will save you money on this batch.
But you did get 6 so that's something good

Don't you just hate it when you do something like that?

I think most of us have done something similar or worse.

Don't beat yourself up too much.

I think this happens more often than people realize. I bought a really choice PCGS AU58 coin a while back that came with an NGC MS63 insert...dealer I bought it from said "let's just say I made a mistake filling out the crossover paperwork"!

I can't be the only one impressed you got even six to cross out of the 23 submitted.

In my mind's eye- not a terrible result.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and relate-able stories...I think I have that SAD disorder and my kids are all adults now so it's hard to handle alone (divorced for 10 years). Thanks again. Doug

Call me anytime. My kids are adults and the grandkids are getting there. I can share. They'll never know that you're a long lost uncle, brother.

If this submission is in the mail I think there's a mechanism to have the package recalled before delivery. I'd look into that.

Expensive lesson, but we have all (myself included) made costly mistakes... in coins

and other transactions.... hurts, but it goes away in time.... and the lesson remains.

    Cheers, RickO
