Sorry, at least based on your pictures I don't think so. Places like the inner loop of the R, and the separation in the lettering do not show on your example. Also the additional thickness in the letter doesn't appear to be there especially for instance in the L and U's. Hope I'm wrong!

Your image is kinda dark, can you lighten it up or at least look at another "pick up point",

decided to redo my post. Bodin, is the top image your coin, and the ones below it known examples for comparison? If that is the case then I can't say for sure. Sharper image would help.

Maybe, need better pic. I will say that this is the one variety that fakes me out most often.

Tough to tell. It looks like there may be some separation in the sarifs.. I think a good close up of the top of the U and R would tell a better story. Can you snap a pic through a loupe?

The top image is the seller's photo(enlarged on the PUP)
Below it is a brightened photo with the contrast raised as per one of the responses.

The 2 remaining photos below are for comparison

Looks to me like the letters are just flattened, but I'm rooting for you.
  • kazkaz Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭✭✭
Thanks for the clarification. For me the key is splitting of the feet on the letters of STATES as shown in the 3d. image down rather than the letters in E.P.U. Good luck and look forward to the update!

Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like the board doesn't see it. Guess just wishful thinking.

Don't give up yet, we can't tell much from these pics.

The number of true collectors of obscure TD varieties can be counted on one hand. Even the rarest of these varieties are more plentiful than the population of TD variety collectors. Those others who hunt these obscure varieties usually fall into two general categories: opportunists looking to score off the tiny number of real TD variety collectors (get a rip, and then offering for sale at an insane markup); and, casual variety collectors who are simply enjoying the hobby.

The Eagles tongue should be doubled too, which it looks possible from the pic.

EVP this is true to some extent for any series.

I think you're right about this. However, I was only looking for a piece for my 7070.
If it turns out to be a DDR, I'll try and make some money and buy a better piece for my 7070.
    Thanks for your input.

OD: the point I was trying to make is that there is no healthy market (yet?) for obscure varieties of TD. Compare that to early federal issues, Flowing Hair, Draped Bust and Capped Bust series, they have a reasonably healthy market. I've bid 2x, 3x, 4x of some R.7 and R.8 early dollar varieties, and gotten outbid to the extent that I wasn't even the underbidder. It's not that I'm not rooting for obscure TD (and Seated Dollar) varieties to develop into a healthy market (I am, really!), it's just that there is a difference between a cherrypick and actually getting a rip.

Bodin: good luck with your piece, whatever it turns out to be. My only wish is that you enjoy it once you get it in hand.
