You will have more time for your hobbies and as a " professional hobbiest" as my wife calls me, I'm never bored. I'd say keep your interests up, you'll live longer and enjoy life more!

Send me your bonsai plants. Every time I buy one for my better half, I manage to kill it after a couple of years, LOL.

    RC 4x4 Truck timeline ....

8 year old son gets a entry level "Hobby Grade" RC 4x4 with all replaceable / upgradable parts for Christmas.

The day after Christmas, son drives car, dad (me) drives car and instantly goes out and buys another one. Within a week both steering servos go out and get replaced under warranty, but realize we will have to get a metal gear box instead of plastic.

Buy bigger longer lasting NiMh batteries

Drive off cliff and break a replaceable front arm.

Break a shock and fix it.

Buy quick charger and super powerful Lipo Battieries.

Lipo Batteries make the trucks super fast, wow.

Lipo Batteries burnt out both motors on first use.

Decided to buy better brushless motors even tho the other motors were under warranty

Brushless motors are super fast, so fast the trucks are kinda unstable.

Today buy top of the line $500 rc truck off eBay cause eBay has 8x bucks today

Photography, metal detecting, coins, BONSAI!!!!, back to photography, metal detecting, and coins again.

I'm building a small darkroom in my house with hopes to sell prints in the future. Bonsai is so cool. I wish I had started with them twenty five years ago.

I started about 30 years ago with 20 year old plants .....

You can get really old and nice bonsai material from nurseries, your yard, or look for landscaping where they are ripping out plants and ask if you can have a few .....

As to keeping them alive, I choose to keep the vast majority of my plants in wooden training boxes on a watering system. Not ideal, but my plants do not dry completely out which is the major factor in bonsai death ....

I am surprised at all the bonsai hobbyists here.

I have way too many pots in various stages around the yard.

A great place to get into the hobby or pick up good bonsai at reasonable prices is through a local club. Most have an annual auction where members donate material....trees, pots, tools, books etc and the proceeds go to maintain the club's activities throughout the year.
Stay away from holiday mall dealers who usually only sell junk "small plants".
Never try to maintain them indoors...they are trees...they need to live outside!
    Bonsai is a great hobby!

Back in 1986. my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I responded with a "Red Corvette".

Sure enough, on Christmas Day I got a Red Corvette complete with AA Batteries to get it going. This was a very simple car which to make it turn, you backed it up.

Shortly after that, came a Tamiya Hornet and then a Big Foot and a host of other toys culminating in a Gas Powered car. I couldn't keep up with technology and this activity was literally sucking money out of my wallet.

Before that it was RC Airplanes. The biggest difference between the two is that with an RC Car, if you make a mistake, the car usually is recovered for the next days activities. Not so much with the planes where a mistake costs you the plane.

But, whatever. Having fun is what its all about and while RC Cars, Trucks and Planes can cost a lot of money, finding coins can MAKE you money.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Nah.

I'm guessing that when you retire you'll just switch to error trucks and remote control coins.

My local B&M coin dealer's wife got him a larger RC helicopter for Christmas a few years back. The length of the copter was about 3' long and had a small video camera on it. BIG mistake on her part. He's the kind of person that goes ALL OUT on something new and has to get more of everything. Well, he hooked up with a middleman in China and within 6 months of getting that 1 helicopter for Christmas there was half a shipping container headed this way with RC helicopters, planes, and a few cars. He ditched the helicopters for planes and, while he did sell a good many of them in his B&M storefront, he crashed most all of his profit in his yard.

I am working my way to retirement now, just bought a house and 400 acres in Oklahoma. Going to put my house on the market anyday now. I got an offer to buy the bulk of my rent properties a few weeks back. I got close to signing on the dotted line when I walked away. It was going to be x down and x for 15 years at 5 percent intrest. My monthly play money was going to take a 5k hit and I decided I need to keep them all for a few more years. Being 100 percent debt free still takes quite a bit of $$ to keep the incendentals paid. I decided to tuff it out another 3 years and look again with I am 55

Yes, many times, but today I caught a boat (anchor line).

My friend however caught a 45 pound yellowtail today and another friend a 70 pound thresher shark. I went home with Thresher Sharks steaks for dinner .....

    Lol

I needed a fishing pole like that one as I launched my pontoon boat in reverse without any on the boat once.. Forgot to tie the rope to the trailer when the water was super low and the boat went without anyone.

What brand was that fishing pole?
