I'm not fond of carbon spots. But do like the color.

Same here, that coin does nothing for me at all.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I saw it and wondered whose it was. Those spots aren't fun but I bet in hand it flashes

no matter how much it "flashes" I think you are buried hip-deep to never recover if you add up the cost and grading. the spots on the obverse and the three carbon spots on the reverse virtually assure that the coin will need to be discounted to sell.

I find the carbon spots distracting, but if you like it, that is what matters.

    .

interesting that it isn't over-exposed diffused like most toners. This is accurate to what it looks like in-hand.

I personally prefer both type of images for a toner if in-hand isnt an option.

i bet the luster is nice on this cent. dont recall seeing a lot of small date bs toners but for the era, they gotta be out there.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. In hand it looks awesome and it does make me happy. The carbon spots are unfortunate. Would it looks a lot better without them? Absolutely! I think the toning may have caused by the slab itself. I own other PCI Lincoln's and formerly red coins are either red/brown or brown now. The coin has great luster in hand. If you are "pleased" that is all that counts. There are plenty of things I have spent money on that I will "never get back."

    Actually I like this coin.

Sure the carbon spots do it no good but it's pretty clean for the date and it is attractive. It's a nice well struck coin and almost certainly mint set. A lot of these that are still in the mint set have spots and corrosion now days.
