Name on the slab label

Since PCGS prints names on the slab label such as shown with the first photo could they also print a name given to the coin such as shown on the second photo.

Has anyone done this?

Just curious.

Seems reasonable to me. Afterall, any subsequent owner could always just crack it. It would certainly be an interesting experiment. Though I could also see it getting out of hand quickly....like a circulated Ike named "Simon" .... etc...

I don't think PCGS will place any old name on a coin's cert. I'm not sure what's going on with the "Yellow Rose of Texas" but the pedigree rules are pretty clear:

If you participate in the PCGS Set Registry program your set may qualify for the free pedigree service. The free pedigree service policy is as follows:

The set must be 100% complete.

The set must be in the top 5 in the Registry.

PCGS does not pedigree modern Mint and Proof sets (1965-present), Everyman Collections or Low Ball sets.

Sets with less than 10 coins may be pedigreed if warranted. The decision will be that of PCGS experts.

The Registry member is responsible for shipping and handling costs.

The fee for pedigrees for upgrades to your set submitted after the initial pedigree is $10 a coin. PCGS will not pedigree duplicate coins. You must submit both the upgraded coin and the coin it will be replacing. The coin that will no longer remain in your set will be reholdered without the pedigree and returned to you along with the newly pedigreed coin. Your set must remain 100% complete and in the top five to qualify.

This explains a lot and think that answers the question. The second one with "Yellow Rose of Texas" was done in Photoshop as an example.

    Thanks

I have my name as a Pedigree on my Registry Set.

Back in 2002 it was in the top 5, and PCGS allows the owners Pedigree to be on the label.

I think I'm down to about #18 on the set now image

The Regency slabs that PCGS no longer offers allowed a customized title or name to be given to each coin certified.

I like the idea.... and AuroraBorealis would have a great time with that, since he names

all his wildly colored coins.... too bad they do not do this as a regular request. Cheers, RickO

Intelligent responses already, but putting clever names on coins reminds me of ski runs, rock climbing routs, and weed strains. Kind of cheapens what I would consider a serious intellectual hobby.

I can see the desire though, if trying to describe a coin like a color toned Morgan to a friend over the phone..."it's that yellow one, you know the Yellow Rose of Texas!" Etc.

I'd name my pedigree collection, "Ultra Premium Quality"

Grab you a fine point permanent marker or one of those label maker do-dads to personalize your slabs.

It's funny that you would talk about this subject? I just recently requested PCGS to personalize a special coin for me. This coin (sorry, no pictures, yet. still have to learn how) 1921s Morgan Dollar that my father personally engraved my name and birthday on when I was born. My father recently passed. Well, PCGS came through for me and granted my request! On the obverse of the slab I wanted the two words, "Dad's Dollar" So they did. I am very pleased with our host for filling my desire for my"Dad's Dollar" to be cherished as well as protected now in the holder!image

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
