PCGS PR: An Important Message to PCGS Diamond Members

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,684 ✭✭✭✭✭
Dear PCGS Diamond Member:

As you may have heard, PCGS CoinFacts will be made 100% free beginning February 1, 2016. Due to the fact that PCGS CoinFacts will be free,

we are also eliminating the Diamond membership level on February 1st, 2016.

After much consideration, PCGS decided to open up CoinFacts to the entire hobby as part of our continuing effort to promote numismatics.

We believe that more collectors will enter the hobby if better numismatic information is available to all. This, in turn, will promote the longevity of our beloved pastime.

I would like to thank you for your support of PCGS CoinFacts through your Diamond Collectors Club membership.

Your membership validates the importance of PCGS CoinFacts’ comprehensive pricing, auction prices realized, census reports, expert narratives, and high resolution images.

Your next question is undoubtedly about a refund for your paid subscription. We are ready to walk you through the process.

I encourage you to call our PCGS Customer Service department at 1-800-447-8848 for more information.

Sincerely,

Don Willis

President, PCGS

PCGS has just sent me an email suggesting I contact customer service to resolve the "refund" issue. I suspect that since each of us have different expiration dates, each of us will have different desires about this. I am a LONG TIME subscriber to both membership and Coin Facts. As such I am "locked-in" to a $49 a year Silver membership and the $95 a year Coin Facts subscription. Since my Coin Facts subscription expires on August 3rd, I have a six month (February thru July) refund coming. So I figure also that PCGS doesn't want to send out checks to everyone for the refund. What they probably want to do is provide credit of some sort. A fair credit for ME would be to extend my membership another year from July 1, 2016 to July 1, 2017. $95/6 months = $47.50. My yearly membership is $49. Fair deal? Let's see what PCGS thinks when I call. I'm in no rush. Steveimage

I just talked with Stephanie at customer service, because my credit card was charged a couple of days ago for annual renewal. She indicated that the charge would be refunded in February. Seems fine to me and no hassle.

Well, it appears that PCGS is making every effort to satisfy those who had prior subscriptions.

I think their reasoning behind making Coinfacts free to all is very sound. Cheers, RickO

I also just talked with Stephanie at customer service.

She said PCGS would pro-rate my Diamond membership and issue a credit back on the Credit Card.

No refund if it's been over 90 days since payment. Guess I get to pay for another 7 months of CoinFacts,

This is great news. Hopefully this doesn't stifle any continued improvements to CoinFacts.

I have about 4 months left on my CoinFacts subscription and I too was told no refund if the charge wasn't made w/in the last 90 days... doesn't seem right to be penalized for buying the yearly subscription.

Oh man, I'm ticked! I renewed on 10/15, so I may be just over the 90 day period! ....but within 90 days of the announcement on 1/9/16.

For someone who hasn't paid a penny, I applaud PCGS's decision to make Coinfacts freely available.

I plan to PM Don Willis on this. See my post above. The LOGIC is WRONG. You do not penalize some paying members while you refund others. Steveimage

I just got off the phone with PCGS CSD. I mentioned that I just renewed my Diamond Membership 12/29/15 and was told to call CSD per the DW email in the OP.

The rep mentioned that there is no need to call on this matter, as they will automatically issue rebates/refunds to those members entitled to said refund.

She never even asked for my account number, so I will check my acount in a week or two to be sure PCGS follows through.

    That's my report.

GB, you beat me to it....had just called and was coming here to update.

Talked with Stephanie and she said, as you mentioned. Any refund will be automatic through the accounting department, on Feb 1, 2016.

No actions needed by us (ie...no calls, no emails, etc....should all be automatic as they are doing it on their end)

If they'll just agree to issue upgrades to three or four of my coins, we'll call it even..........

So, if one cancels their membership, do they still get a pro-rated refund? If so, then the way they handle this issue may end up getting some cancellations.

Currently, I have been contemplating reducing from Platinum anyway. So, it may be better for me to cancel platinum and, some months later, when I need to submit again, to purchase Silver.

Heck, I just called Comcast today to start canceling some things and they ended up giving me more and cutting $40/mo from my bill. Might as well cut a few other places to save money.

    Really?

Mine was paid in August of 2015 which screws me out of any "refund".

    Bah Humbug!

Maybe the email should have included this information or better yet, "If you've subscribed to PCGS CoinFacts within the past 90 days, contact PCGS Customer Service for information about a refund". "If its been longer than 90 Days since your subscription payment, Sorry."
