Sheeze. Just got another coin.

So..... I look at it, put the PICTURE in Collective Coin, stick the COIN in the box and then just LOOK at Collective Coin when I wanna see what I got.



WTF?



I think I may be completely nuts.

Not nuts at all. I know for myself the majority of coins I see on line I would never be able to purchase. So best to create a "collection file" of the coins you admire. Then one can have a virtual collection called up whenever one wishes to admire their "collection". No expense or safety/storage concerns as well.

Also of note, in some cases, the coin in hand is better than the photos and in others the photos are better than the coin in hand!

And the next step is, you don't even have to look at the picture--you just *remember* what each coin looks like so well, no need to involve your eyes anymore

I have gone beyond that step to the next step ... that is .... I forget about most coins I bought more then a year ago and when I re-find them in my collection I say, oh that's cool.

PCGS Set Registry and Pinterest could be fun places to build a virtual collection.



I don't really have the time or inclination to build a virtual collection at the moment but occasionally I'll matte some photos for presentation and posterity. While I have no intention of assembling the images, I use standard sizes like 1200x600, 800x400 and 600x300 depending on what photos are available so I don't have to think about sizing. Here's

While I enjoy pictures of special coins - ones I will likely never own.... There is no substitute

for holding a real coin.... pictures will never take the place of possession. I do not have an

SDB and never will.... I like to look at and hold my coins. Cheers, RickO

I agree. I'm a big fan of photos and slabs but they are still different experiences than holding the coin directly. The edge view holders do help. For many pieces, I'm willing to forgo holding it directly for the protection slabs offer and the convenience photos offer.

I got this idea from a place in Wyoming, that sold 1 square inch of land, undivided.



Take a $1,000,000 coin. divide it into 10,000,000 shares. Sell each share for $1, and an electronic image. Shares expire in 1 year. The "owner" of the coin retains 5,000.001 shares. For $100, you can "own" 100 rare coins, and savor their images. Then, after a year, you can more to another set of coins.



PCGS will have to "modify" registries to allow multiple owners at the same time.



This is a lot cheaper than buyer fees, shipping, and storage costs.



I will be selling shares in my 1957-D Lincoln, graded EF-45, for a mere 50 cents each, to start the ball rolling.



The Wyoming thing was set up as a state income tax dodge. You "owned" land in Wyoming and had a mailing address. You could "move" from New York, and exempt non-income revenue (interest, stock sales, etc.) from state income tax, say from New York or California.
