Very nice, Brian! I like it and I'm sure it will grade problem-free. AU50-53.

    That's the only 1819/8 I don't have. Wish I'd seen it first!

I don''t have that one either but I'm trying to avoid developing the AU habit several forumites seem to have. image

I might do an AU date set but 400+ AUs is way more than I want to tie up in my set.

Thanks for sharing this great die variety. Nice pick up, Brian! 53 or 55, depending on the surfaces and luster...

Not bad...I'll go with 53 myself. Seems like a little too much obverse rub for a 55?

I would guess AU-55 and like it very much.

Hard to say on the grade.....appears kind of flat, might just be the picture, but I'll go with 55 netted to 53 for muted luster

No, there's not a chance it will upgrade; the coin is pretty dull. Although the detail is AU/UNC, the lack of luster is a major limiting factor.

I just noticed that PCGS made an attribution error; they called it the "Small 9" when it is actually the "Large 9" overdate. I've seen this mistake before and it is an easy one to make considering the 9's hardly differ in size. Still, I'm slightly annoyed considering the coin is Registry Set quality and won't fill the right hole in the online sets with the current attribution.

I'll take the coin to Long Beach and speak with some PCGS reps about the issue. I've heard they're more than willing to clear these kinds of things up.

I've had to return many misattributed coins. Probably a half dozen last year alone, and I have a few more that are wrong but they're in OGH's I don't want to lose.

If you write to Stephanie Zamarripa at PCGS (AZamarripa@collectors.com) and send her photos she will send you detailed instructions for returning the coin by registered mail (only). You follow-up with an email citing the submission form number and proof of your shipping costs and you will get a refund check in the mail (a few weeks later).

PCGS seems to be pretty quick on the turnaround.

You could do this at a show but they won't fix it there. These corrections have to be handled back at the shop, I was told.
