I wonder why they chose to put their logo over the reg number? And why post it in the antique coin (ie pre-sterling) silver category? Do you folks look there for things, because a lot of sellers (with a lot of dubious offerings) do this.
probably because they either don't want the picture used by someone else or they will be sending a different cert number. Ebay requires them to provide the cert number of the graded coin they are selling, either in the picture or in the description. Since they did neither you can either message them for the cert number and a pic of what will be shipped or report listing to ebay for not providing cert number as required.
Probably listed in an alternate category to increase potential buyers because not being listed in a bullion category makes the buyer eligible for ebay bucks rebate. Also a reportable offense, however reporting the wrong category penalizes a buyer and not the seller.
UPDATE, CORRECTION: After reviewing current coin policy, ebay still requires a graded coin to have a unique serial number on the label but no longer specifically requires a seller to provide it in the listing. Ebay does require the seller of a graded coin to provide a clear picture of the actual item being sold. As a buyer I would expect this clear picture to show the actual certification number. If it did not I would contact the seller for the actual cert number of what I would be receiving.
For awhile, weren't sellers hiding cert numbers to make sure people didn't "steal" the number to add to their PCGS/NGC registry sets? (Don't know that it was a rampant practice then.....or now).
Comments
Either way, there's no way to know if the coin you'll receive is the one pictured. And it feels like they're trying to hide something.
I wouldn't buy it.
