Can you use Acetone to clean ASE Proof

I have a ASE proof I need to lift finger print smears from. What is the best method to do so. Acetone?

Will work if these are recent. Once its been there for a while, you will need to dip.

Acetone, pure, from Walmart is where i get mine - do not use the girlfriend's nail polish remover as there are contaminants in there. Hot rinse with water and tamp dry with high nap CLEAN white cotton towel.

Yes, acetone is safest. If the print has been there for a long time it may not clean up fully.

A stronger approach is eZest (nee Jewel Luster). Experience recommended.

Thanks. Yes looks like its been there awhile. Also looks to be improperly cleaned. Bought this on eBay coin only for a steal of a price. Its not that bad just don't like looking at the dull finish on the mirror parts. Obverse only

How has it been improperly cleaned? Hairlines or a washed-out look? If it's already "dipped-out" another dip will only aggravate things. If it's hairlines beneath a fingerprint smudge then a dip may show them more prominently.

Another option would be MS70 on the print area. But you have to be very gentle and roll it on with a cotton swab.

A fingerprint, for any length of time, on a proof mirror surface, will etch the surface and

will always be there. Cheers, RickO

And if it's been there long enough to list on eBay, you got what you paid for silver.
