Thanks for the comment. I agree that this AU55 double eagle has a really attractive, original look.
The upcoming Long Beach Goldberg sale is only offering two Type 1 double eagles and both are 1857-S—the other is an AU58. I personally like the AU55 better, as it looks more natural with fewer abrasions, but it happened to get a lower grade the last time it was graded. The prices realized will be interesting.
