Would winning the Powerball change your collecting direction?

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'd still focus on the same areas as now...

However felt it would be fun to see if anyone else is dreaming to make a big move?

What is the definition of "winning"? I won $12 at the last drawing although it cost me $15. Now I'm out another $15 for tonight's drawing. How much do I need to win tonight in order to define your definition of "winning"? Thanks for your input. Steveimage

Hitting the jackpot as the only winner and having $250,000,000.00 cash on hand after taxes.

How do you spend $15 when each line costs $2???

The odds are so against an individual in these drawings, I don't even buy a ticket.

I really wouldn't want that much money anyway, and I am serious about that.

My wife doesn't believe me when I say that, but it would be more of a headache to me than it would be worth.

That being said, I wouldn't mind having a really nice PR CAM $20 Lib.

But that wouldn't cost $800 million anyway!

I wouldn't want to win "crazy" money like tonight's drawing either. Too much is too much. I think I would be very happy to win two or three million. It wouldn't affect my coin collecting anyway. Steveimage

small business loans, foreclosures, speculate on world markets etc. man, it would be insane.

not sure what i would do. whatever it would be, it would be a lot of it. lol

anyone wanna crunch the annual interest earned on 500mil?

the number i heard, after taxes on lottery 1.2 bil, was 580mil i think, around 50% for a single cash payment.

i do want to say i think there should be multiple drawings for the big one. rather see dozens of people win a few mil, i'd probably play then.

First thing I'd do is buy the best $50 Pan Pac Octagonal available - my dream coin !

Then I'd buy a round version - yawn from boredom - and offer up the round one for a forum give-away !

Next I might just give away my life in Michigan and become a true citizen of the world.

it would not change my "direction", but I'd finally be able to complete my US type set by finally

take the instant payout, lose 40%, get taxed on the remainder, lose another percentage, by the time it's over the lottery has made 40%, you lose the instant payout and taxes

Of course, no one would do this, LOL

I don't think you could support yourself on interest from $500 mil in a MMF if it's anything like I'm getting on the cash in my Fidelity IRA.

Go to a convenience store between 6 and 8 a.m. and watch what people spend on junk and then decide if $2 for a lottery ticket is really that dumb.

With that much money I'm afraid collecting coins would become boring. The agony and excitement of stretching for that "oh-so-uncommon" coin would turn into yeah, "Yes Jeeves, buy all those, and maybe three or four of those....."

It would be fun to do the ultimate type set...... nothing but key dates, in the best grades you can find.

No,but I would try to buy all the genuine 1894-S dimes. One would be for my collection of Barber dimes. Planning ahead, the other 1894-S dimes acquired (I would pay up to $3M each) would be trading stock for 1933 double eagles should these become legal to own.

“I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am. When two expeditions of scientists, financed by the Royal Academy, went forth to test my theory of relativity, I was convinced that their conclusions would tally with my hypothesis. I was not surprised when the eclipse of May 29, 1919, confirmed my intuitions. I would have been surprised if I had been wrong. I am enough of the artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” Albert Einstein- quoted in Saturday Evening Post interview (1929)

“Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.” For Einstein, honesty was fundamental. Attention to truth in small things reflected a person’s integrity on a larger scale.
