Will it work and how long should I soak? It's on copper.

Yes it will remove lacquer or varnish and shouldn't take very long... Not sure how long?

Just make sure you have a good feel for the underlying surfaces as sometimes removal could yield something non attractive.

Plan on changing the acetone several times, and use a glass bowl. Do this outside. It may take hours for all of the lacquer to dissolve, so be patient.

Cover the jar/bowl or the acetone will evaporate quickly.... agitate it a bit... and yes,

change it at least twice.... a lot depends on how thick the coating is and what type.

I have had laquer on older medals that acetone didn't touch after quite a while.

It may not come off as stated above. Cover the jar/glass cup.
