Standing Liberty Quarter Types - I, II and III or I, IIa and IIb
![oih82w8](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/223/nN3CPWC3V39R4.png)
I have been a firm believer that the Standing Liberty Quarter series should have the recessed dates of 1925 thru 1930 listed as Type III. I was doing some looking on Collectors.com and they have three Type categories for the SLQ; Type 1, Type 2a and Type 2b.
Just curious what the other forum members thought.
Type I, II and III
Type 1, 2a and 2b

So, in answer to your question, they've gone with Type 1, 2, and 3 versus 2a/2b.

Actually, type 2a and type 2b have been used on 1921 SLQ already. If you are a true SLQ expert, you should know 1921 is the transition year that there are two different edge designs. Since it is minor and J. Cline tried to promote it but it did not go too far since 1921 SLQ quantity is limited.
I am far from being an expert in any series...it's just my observation.

I have always felt that the initial year, 1916 should be considered as Type 1.
....the differences between 1916 and 1917 are enough to classify them separately.
1917 - No Stars Under Eagle - Type 2
1917 - 1924 - Type 3
1925 - 1930 - Type 4

This 1916 is an entirely different design struck in very low relief compared to the bare breasted 1917's.
If you think about it although the low mintage is mentioned for having been issued at the end of the year.
It's more so a pattern issued to see how the general public would feel about the design.
I also agree with MFH's four types.
