If you "ignore" a user can they still see your posts?

Just wondering? Can't remember this feature on the old forum.

No on the new software the blockee just completely vanishes.

Unfortunately if someone responds to a post made by the invisible blocked party it gets really confusing reading the thread as it makes no sense without seeing what was posted.

I would hope it made both parties vanish from one another.

    I guess it probably does...

But since your blocking someone from contacting you it's tough to ask them "Hey can you see me" imageimage

What if someone uses the quote feature on a post that someone else is blocking? Will the blocker then see the post he tried to block? It never made sense to me to block anyone. If you don't like that person just don't read their posts and don't respond to their posts if you do read them.

You don't see the quoted part...

Heck if a ignored member starts a thread and it gets 100+ responses you don't see it at all.

With the new software it's better to just personally ignore then block.

Sounds like the blocker is hurting himself and no one else. He may not like a forum member but the many responses to a thread started by that forum member may contain some useful information that the blocker will be missing out on.

IIRC ignoring someone just means they can't contact you by PM. They can read your post/s and quote them or otherwise respond to them.

As I understand it, ignoring a user also means that if you open a thread to which they have posted that their posts to that thread will not be visible.

This is what I understood also, PM function is blockable only.

I agree with PerryHall.... I would not bother blocking anyone... It would take a lot

to bother me - only happened once, years ago... that was when an idiot threatened

me....not an issue anymore. Remember, "Keep your friends close, keep your

I have blocked a couple from PM'ing me in the past but we no longer have the ability to do just that.

They can still see your posts. You cannot control what another user sees on their own monitor by selecting your own preferences and options.

I have to agree with others here. It is always easier for me to do my own "ignores" than to have a computer program do it.

    Merry Christmas to all!

After doing a little sleuthing, I found the following that should make things a little clearer. There appear to be 2 types of ignore.

If you click on Private Messages, you get the message history page. Along the top menu is the word BANNING. Click on that gets you a little window. Use THAT to keep people from contacting you by PM.

If you mouse on the word dashboard, you get another option to add an ignored user. Doing THAT will get you; These users will be ignored when you view topics & messages.

If you put yourself on ignore from the dashboard link, you can't see your posts in a thread. The threads will come up if you search yourself as author.

If you put a user on ignore, you can't see his posts, but I think he also has to have you on ignore in order to not see your posts. Ignore only affects what you will see/not see and not what other members will see or not see.

There's a huge advantage to blocking someone.....lowered blood pressure. I've done this twice on other blogs I play on. Rather than read any drivel posted by such people, I'm very happy to see incomplete threads with their comments missing. My blood pressure stays low and everyone's happy.

Bingo! For real, there's one person here that likes to poke and troll, and just be a pita. I blocked him from my view after the new software went in, and it's been pretty great.

Once, someone did quote this person and it was the same type of garbage that I originally blocked him for in the first place. Made me even happier I didn't see the rest of it.

I think I have 2-3 on that blocked list and I am really doubtful I am missing any gems/nuggets of intelligence or great posts, from doing so.

It's really the only nice thing I have been happy to have from this new software.

As to the blockee still seeing the blocker's posts.....of course they can...unless they have the blocker blocked as well.

I've been inclined to block another poster or 2, who never add anything to conversations....just stupid "humor" attempts. I don't like just ignoring posts/blocking people, but seeing as to how I never get their "humor" nor like all the self-promotional links that a certain one can't seem to post without, I don't think it will be a loss.

I've never blocked anyone. I do see a broken up thread once in a while, so I guess some are blocking me? I just thought someone captured a post before it was deleted. Guess not, ok

If someone is blocking you, you can still see you. That is truer than true. People can now delete their own posts so maybe that is what you are seeing.

I'm hoping that is all it is. I don't post a ton here but when I do I try to keep it informative, real and mostly neutral. Still, I'd be ok with it if I'm on the other end of an ignore, I'm a big boy. I'm sure it goes along with the territory.
