In the PCGS certification database, it's also denoted as a nickel with a value referencing the 1914-D AU58 Buffalo Nickel of $550 instead of the 1914-D AU58 Gold $5 Indian of $460.

It's my understanding that the slabs are constructed and sealed in such a way that it's impossible to open one up, change the coin, and reseal it without having obvious damage visible to the slab.
I would give a penny for the thoughts of PCGS, the owner and HA, without trying to nickel and dime them to death. I would say that if they ignore the issue, NO QUARTER for the Half lings. Probably for a big company like HA and PCGS, just another day, another dollar.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector. Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
Maybe it is a gold plated Indian Head Nickel. I seem to recall an article in a newspaper from around 1914 where someone was caught trying to pass a gilded nickel. Maybe this is it and it was an excellent job of gilding.
