USPS damaged the package really bad(small flate rate). The card looks okay so hopefully it will keep the same grade. The person I bought it from did not insure it so he's praying for a 8 while it is getting reholderd . Insure your packages kids!

On a much smaller scale I'm dealing with a lost 1956 Ernie Banks PSA 7 that I shipped out November 30th and hasn't updated tracking since the next day when it made it to the hub. I'm feeling like I'm going to be refunding some paypal. I didn't do insurance on that one as the $150 or so card is right on the cusp of where I consider them self-insured. Anything over that and I suck it up for the insurance. Good luck with it!
This happened to me as well, on this exact date. I was shipping from PA to MD. About 12 days after I shipped it, still nothing, so I called USPS and at the beginning of the call I entered my tracking number into the automated system. I was put on hold for 1.5 hours. Funny/good part was that when I finally got through and gave the operator my tracking number again, he pulled it up and WA-LA, the package had miraculously been scanned during me being on hold. The card made it safely. I'm definitely getting nervous about some of these shipments during this holiday season.

Edit: I'll post a pic of the box when I get a chance
Good luck!!!
This smells REAL fishy to me!!!
Instead you should mail expensive graded cards in a 400 ct. box wrapped in bubble wrap with packing peanuts.
Postage will be like $2.22 for 5 oz., plus whatever else you add to the package for tracking/insurance.
Hopefully the re-holdering works out for you.

After looking at a few completed auctions, I am somewhat confused, most 8's seem to go for 4000.-4700. those were better centered though.
USPS usually does a great job, but stuff happens. Hope card regrades an 8 and everything works out for the best!!!!!!
Why did he charge $30 for shipping and not insure the package?
Good question. ??

WOW! I didn't notice that. He's NOT supposed to make money on shipping and it is his responsibility to insure the item.
I'm hardly an expert on "grading", but does that look like a Psa 8 with the top corners looking like that?
+1 a couple days ago....pic of box?
Any chance it was already cracked, card replaced, and shipped? I agree that the card does not look like an 8 and Ive seen horribly destroyed packages and don't see how this could happen. Here fishy fishy.
I don't blame people for being skeptical about anything.
With the amount of shadiness in the industry, it is justified.
There isn't any shadiness going on here.
Hope this works out for you and the seller, unfortunately I think it's a stretch that this card gets put back into an 8 holder.
I don't see how this behavior is justifiable on so many threads. If the OP was out to scam someone he wouldn't have posted this here.

I think that's a little of your paranoia. Im thinking of the sender may be a shade shady. Looking out for the OP. Look what he got for what he paid for. Its reality these days or your just naive. Especially in this day and age of scams, pics being lifted and "resold". We're feeling bad for the OP and trying to help him out.
That box is ridiculous. Looks like it was torn in half. Hope you get your money back. No way a four figure card should show up like that. Ive never seen it in a high dollar card. Also, with those corners I don't see how thats an 8. Doesn't belong. Id get the refund.
That got me thinking. I went back and the last 11 out of 12 pages had 1 or more threads referencing some sort of scam, fake, shady seller etc. Wariness is a little justified IMHO.
How hard is it when using the small $5.95 USPS Flat Rate shipping boxes to pad the four inside walls with extra card board to protect the surrounding bubble wrapped item. The weight is insignificant to the cost. Gotta love when I get an item and it is not protected 360 degrees around the item (suspended in the box). Most times the items is laying flat on the bottom of the box with padding everywhere else.

If it were on the seller then why no insurance? And the post office would not have accepted the box in that condition. If he dropped it off then it would be return to sender.
I always try to see the other side of the coin on issues, and that's gotten me into a lot of heat on these boards, but there is no scam here, period.
are the corners high end 8 , no , but good enough for an 8 in my opinion after seeing so many cards. centering , borderline at best. as the OP said, not a high end 8 for sure and as the OP said why he got it for under market rate
I have seen a bunch of comments about the seller, not one positive. and I have seen a bunch of comments feeling sorry for the OP. if there is anyone to feel sorry for in this mess, it is the SELLER. USPS destroys the package and somehow the seller is a lowlife. The OP will either get his card back from PSA in an 8 holder or he will get a refund. seller is the only one who loses for USPS's poor handling of the package
another cu witch hunt . seems to be what the board is about these days.

I agree that the seller will be the one to lose out but they should have insured the package and packed it better, especially for $30 shipping fees.

lol feel sorry for the seller? you charge $30 and you don't insure that card, you get what you deserve. i'm sure he can afford it as it looks like he's been ripping off his customers on shipping charges for years...
+1----KARMA

Why don't all you people that don't have anything to say that isn't negative or accusatory go somewhere else. Many of us come here because we enjoy our hobby. If you are so jaded that you see fraud in everything just go away. By the way just because you have posts in the hundreds or thousands doesn't make you important just go away. Sorry about your card, I hope the grading works out, good luck.
A-HA! I was wondering when the eBay seller would poke his head into this thread.
BUSTED!

Tell me what's not negative or fraudulent about charging $30 for regular usps priority mail. Where I see the postage stamp states $5.95 and the box is FREE. They're right on their own individual island in front of the desk. And he sure didnt use more than a dollars worth of bubble wrap, etc.
The extra 24 bucks will buy a nice dinner where I live. For two.
seriously ? fraud for charging the going rate. The seller is on the hook that the package gets to the buyer and charges accordingly, why does he have to insure through usps? anyone ever heard of private insurance or third party insurance or self insurance.
and are you guys serious ?????? he didn't pack the card well? he sent it in a box in bubble wrap. the usps runs the thing through the ringer and it is the sellers fault. I am willing to bet 99% of the sellers out there would have packed the card the same way, heck , pwcc would have sent it in a flat rate envelope and not even boxed it
Some sellers self-insure. They collect an extra $X per item and then every so often they have to pay out of their own pocket when an item is damaged. So, even if that card comes back as a PSA 5, the seller might not lose any money (overall), since he may have pocketed an extra $X on all of his past transactions.
Unless ebay has changed it's regulations, sellers are not supposed to make money on shipping. Seller will lose if he/she "self insures" and item is damaged in transit. Point I was trying to make on insurance is; seller is not supposed to charge buyer for that. Collecting "extra per item" is not allowed. OP posted about a negative thing that happened; USPS damaged package, people responded. $30.00 is ridiculous for shipping and should have been sent registered mail or at the very least with signature confirmation. After all it's a pretty expensive item and should have been shipped MUCH better, especially for the amount overcharged.
So many people on here just see the negative in everything. I swear sometimes they just troll the board to make negative comments, it's really tiring ...
Plenty of positive things here as well. I have learned a lot on these message boards, much of it from the negative experiences of others. If you don't like what is being discussed, simply ignore the post.

The card apparently wasn't sold on ebay. The link says the "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."
Seller will lose if he/she "self insures" and item is damaged in transit.
Not necessarily. Let's say that a seller charges $10 for insurance on every item, and self-insures. The seller therefore pockets $10 extra on every item that isn't lost/damaged. If a $1000 item is damaged, the seller might lose $1000 on *that* transaction, but still might not lose money by self-insuring (overall), because all of those $10 could add up to more than $1000.
Basically, a seller that self-insures usually loses big chunks of money every so often, while someone that buys USPS insurance loses a little money on every item.
The seller apparently didn't do that. The ebay listing says $30 for shipping, but it doesn't say anything about insurance. There are only maximum shipping charges in a few categories.
But, I didn't even make a comment on that. My post was only about how people are saying "karma" and basically saying that "the seller is going to lose a lot of money" by not using USPS insurance. As I explained above, the seller might not lose anything.

Well, card was advertised on ebay and ebay has rules for selling on their site. If item is sold "off of ebay" buyer and seller can agree to whatever they want. If buyer is willing to pay $30.00 for shipping and is happy with that, that's OK. Card was shipped POORLY! I would not buy or sell any item this expensive and not have a signature required and adequate insurance. USPS also did a bad job! Hope this all turns out for both buyer and seller!!!
