Sometimes PCGS and NGC see coins the same way...

There have been threads about how loose some TPG are in comparison to PCGS, but on occasion they see along similar lines. My last submission to PCGS crossover/variety attribution produced the same grades for two recent purchases;

(1961) CSA Bashlow Restrike Copper PCGS MS67RD (tied at Top Pop)

1858-O 50C WB-102 PCGS XF40 (bottom feeder with two higher)

    These two were won accidently, they went for a lot less than I my bid to keep a watch on them. Grading the "defaced dies" "coin" would be a challenge itself.

    Interesting. When did PCGS start grading the Confederate Cents? When I send one in I got a lecture on not following "the rules" and they sent it back to me; PCGS refused to grade it.

    It has been accepted recently, I stumbled across them in CoinFacts and that is why I sent it in.

    Common sense should dictate that if people KNOW HOW TO GRADE that they should grade a coin the same no matter who they work for.

    The two services,NGC and PCGS,are more alike than they are different.Probably has more to do with their business models than anything else.Neither service hands out high grades like they are candy.

    This is generally true. Crack out similar quality specimens and PCGS and NGC will grade them the same at least 66% (up to 90%) of time. This is a far cry from crossover statistics.

    For the record it's "Bashlow", not Brashlow. There were 20,000 struck in copper / bronze -- and PCGS has been grading them for a couple years I believe.

    The fingerprint(?) on the obverse of the 58-O is distracting. I also do not like that the fields on the reverse do not match the fields on the obverse. Bit of a flag for me.
