Bought a SCD today, HK-301

I admit I don't know anything about it! Any help with grade and any other info appreciated. It's a HK-301 in copper I was told. These are the seller pics. Thanks for the education!

Looks to me to be an AU-55 though many would call it a 58. As HK pieces go it is one of the more common ones. The 1904 St. Louis Expo was a very large and very well attended event. I believe the site is today a large park in downtown St. Louis. There may have been more souvenir items issued for this fair than any other.

I'd be comfortable with an AU grade. Looks like a fingerprint at 12:00 obverse. Rims look nice. Great design.

Although common I still like these. I just picked up a silver one a few months back

for a very reasonable price.

HK-301 was the designation for this issue in Copper. they were originally thought to be pretty rare but time has told us a different story, probably R-4 or R-5. judging only by the color and the picture this one has been dipped red or the picture is juiced and it's brown.

I've always liked this design and the reminder of early growth stages of this country when the west was new and exciting.


The map is also a good reminder of the origin of Northwestern University's name.
