    He's working at ICG: http://www.icgcoin.com/about/the-team/

With his phenomenal knowledge in numismatics, I'm surprised he hasn't been offered a top level job at a numismatic firm.

Probably did 1 year and got credit for good time. I guess he has been out since early 2017. I hope he got that 1 job they were ready to pay him $250K and up. I would take that job.

And if the quote from Heritage is accurate, "the company would hire Yaffe if he was available and pay him between $250,000 and $500,000 a year.", that doesn't reflect very well on Heritage.

I agree. Unless of course his wages were garnished. Yeah, right. But.....it sounds like he was doing it for " THE CHILDREN. " If he was as smart as he's made out to be he would have chosen politics over coins for his profession. Then, he could have pulled off all the scams his little heart desired. Probably make more money and never see the inside of a jail cell. How smart is he?

@1630Boston That is the same strip mall that NGE was in, and I believe Phoenix is his newest business. Will try and find out.

There are people on this forum who know him. I wonder if they will chime in here.

I never met him. Don't know him. I did know National Gold Exchange, though.

NGE was a major importer of world and U.S. gold from Europe. They had a large inventory of gold coins at wholesale levels. I bought gold coins from them from 2002 to 2006 or so, I believe. I became acquainted with one of their salesmen and when I called him, he would tell me what new inventory had come in and he knew what I was looking for and would pick out some of the nice ones for me.

After around 2006 it seemed like they kind of wound down. The salesman I knew quit and I moved to other sources for coins. But NGE sure worked well for me in their heyday.

Yes. That is his company. I work for Mark at ICG. In my life I have only had one rotten boss. The others have all been absolutely wonderful. I would put Mark at the top but when each boss has been a 9 or 10 out of 10, the top is overcrowded and the differences are too minor to rank them. :)

Sorry, but I just can't stand people who swindle other people out of their hard earned money. It's just a thing with me.

Well, you know more than I do as you obviously read the entire transcript of the legal case.

I'm sorry too. Besides criminals, I can't stand opinionated goody-two-shoes and judgemental, rock throwing :'( . Of course that's not either of us. o:)

Hi @ptvetter, I've heard the whole story, or at least what was described as the whole story, and you might note I've not made any such comments. But I'm curious as to what you heard and how you might defend his actions, to the extent you're comfortable sharing. Thanks...Mike

I have known Mark since he was 19 years old and living in the Boston area. On the surfaces Mark has always been very nice to me and no problem. The story about what happened is much deeper then what the public knows. There are two sub plots involving a neighbor who is a felon from insider trading activity (one of the biggest in the world) and Marks own brother. I doubt we will ever know the exact story.

Mark still goes to show and obviously is much humbled by all that has happened. I have done some minor biz with him. Hes does have many friends who are doing biz with him.

Of all banks to pick, he picked the bank were my biz had a huge unsecured credit line. Right after they discovered the fraud, the execs came to us and said-we don't want your types in here any more. Grrr.....Of course all this makes me mad, but again, even I do not know the 100% full story from he 2 sub plots above I mentioned-they were major contributors to this mess

Theft is not "Theft". It varies by levels of social standing. Bottom of the ladder fill our prisons and as one climbs the ladder punishment levels reduce. Always have and always will. JMO

Seems like there was a lot of money to be made in gold back then. He had a 7 million trust fund for his family.

As far as a nice guy? I don't know.

No one is justifying anything. All criminals should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and either hang, have a hand chopped off, or serve time if found guilty! That includes, women, high power politicians, and folks with powerful friends in government agencies and on the bench. Unfortunately, "justice" is not blind and she plays favorites.

Once time is served, the clock starts again. I know of over a dozen coin dealers who have crossed the line in business. Many are very well known and liked. Many returned to the coin business at a later date. Some have been welcomed back with open arms and many of you are too young to even know about any of this.

Laura has divulged parts of the case that no one ever heard of. If you knew the entire "drama" you might look at Mark in a different light - however he was found guilty of something and served his time in spite of a long list of character references.

Why any of this "old news" even appeared again on CU is a mystery to me. Perhaps a thread of all the transgressions of the past by major coin dealers would give posters another "thrill." I'll remind all of you that virtually none of us are "Saints" in spite of how hard we may try. :(

I had a customer who built a classy 20,000 square foot house north end of town, more of a hobby project, I don't think he lived it in as the wife liked smaller scale. There are plenty of people like that in the NY (and other) areas. I, for one, am glad this kind of stuff gets aired publicly. That's the nice thing about the digital era, it's a lot harder to run from your past transgressions with no repercussions. You have to wear your stains, for better or worse... The concept of informed consent after due diligence in business is something that should be drilled into everybody's brains, that way if something goes south, the aggrieved party know they are at least partially to blame.

I agree. I especially enjoy catching lying politicians by playing an old video!
