Newbie - 1827 capped bust half with a twist

I thought I'd share a recent pick up. It's a nice example of the 1827 O.108 (R.4-). What cinched it for me in the auction was the little surprise running from the cap to the 8th star.

Could it be PMD ?
Nice coin by the way.
I'm fairly certain these are dentil tracks. I have another specimen that matches this look (although it's on the reverse of the coin). A long discussion in 2012 among the Bust Half Nut Club members that was reprinted in the BHNC Newsletter finds many thinking that dentil tracks are in a double strike on the coin. It's an interesting aspect to the coinage of that time period, to say the least.

The 1827 Square Base 2 is my favorite date/variety of Bust half because that was the first one I ever got- was given one for my 13th birthday in 1978. I still have it. It and the 1936 dime which started me collecting in 1976 are the only two remnants of my childhood collection that remain with me today.
Lance.
Congrats.

Double struck. PCGS won't recognize it as such without evidence of the double strike on both sides, but it is a very cool piece, and unusual if not downright scarce. The question is how many 27s are there? I have a couple of halves...an 1824 and an 1807 draped.
Congrats.
Re d/s, pcgs won't put it on the holder unless asked and paid for.
Agreed, but that's not what I meant. I brought my draped bust double struck half to Sheridan's table at a Baltimore show a couple of years ago and they sent me to Fred Weinberg, who was very helpful. As I understand it, d/s draped bust halves are much scarcer than capped bust halves. At the time, Weinberg basically told me that unless there is clear evidence of d/s on both sides, the grading companies will not certify them, since they cannot distinguish it with certainty from PMD. The bust half community as I understand it, disagrees with this position, but that is where matters stood a couple of years ago.
Fred Weinberg posts here so maybe he can offer his views.
