My image is first followed by Stacks.
Granted I need to read the manual and get my copy stand I ordered.
Instead of using a metal bar with clamps
Camera is a Rebel T2i used with a used Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens. I'm not even sure what settings to use
I have it tethered by using some software I downloaded as I didn't get the cd that originally came with the camera. Have to get the focus thing a little better.

I knew it would happen.

Have fun!!
That's the same lens and camera I use.
Focusing is tough and time consuming for me without the crispest result.
I use the monitor and blow the image up but my motor skills are such that the image drifts in and out of focus by the slightest twist of the lens.
Still a pretty good set up without stepping up to the next level/price point

Good result Stef.

Ok so I only use Canon cameras and currently have a T5i with a sigma 150mm macro. That being said I did use exactly what you and Steff are using. Use the Canon software, it is free and very easy to use. If you use the Canon software you can micro focus the camera through the computer and never have to touch the camera or lens.
Steff your image is more in focus than stacks and I would guess more represents the coin in hand. Your white balance look good and all I would change is lighting position. As stated by others take notes of how the camera is setup and then you will always be able to go back to that setting. Fade to Black is also a Canon user and recently changed from a T2i to a T3i so would be good for questions also.
I know we are not supposed to talk sales but oh well keep me in mind if you ever want to change to a longer focal length lens as whenever I find a Sigma macro at a decent price I grab it and offer it here for pretty much my cost plus shipping.
Thanks for your time, Christos (John).
you can just sharpen the images, just a bit, before doing anything else to them.
i should have been doing that all along. amazing crispness is to be had.
fwiw, i use windows photogallery. quick and easy.
.
few shots with the camera is that I used the heck out of my old point and shoot camera.
swampboy, can you tell me what settings you are using.

Thanks everyone. I think the main reason I had so much luck with my first
few shots with the camera is that I used the heck out of my old point and shoot camera.

Stef I'm generally shooting F10
1/60-125
I adjust the WB shift in the EOS utility until I get it right
usually ISO 200 but often the ISO helps with white balance so I'm flexible
The nice part about the utility is you can see right on the monitor how each individual setting adjusts the image.
I hope this helps.
I'm real anxious to see how I can use Christos' tip about focusing from the utility.
That will be sooo cool once I find out where it is. lol

the little arrows a single set then double set upper right. the doubled set is larger steps in focusing.
on the first setting....guess I'm to excited. I did manage to download the original software as
I was searching on the net and found it. There was also something in the software that lets you "install" a lens
that you are using, not sure if it made a difference though.
