Carson City Mint--recent trip there with pictures

If you are interested in coinage of the old west a trip to the Nevada State History Museum in Carson City is a must. I recently visited there and saw Old Coin Press #1. Most of the larger denomination coinage was struck on this coin press.
I recently acquired an 1893-cc $20 in a Heritage coin auction. One reason that I wanted the coin was because it was from the last year that the CC mint operated.[/URL]

BTW, you were in Dan Carr country. I met him at the ANA in Baltimore in 2008, such a great guy.
Goldbully....The Nevada State History Museum is not in Colorado!
Smile!
Like a ghost town!
To the OP....gee, the streets look abandoned!

Yes, that is really odd. Not a vehicle in sight.
That press looks great. Nice pictures.
Love that press.
Nice that you can get that close to check it out.
Usually things like that are inaccessible.
Thanks.

"Very cool. Will put this down as a must see trip if I ever get to go to Colorado again."

Damn, I better check and recheck my meds.....I worked 12 hours today on a very complex machine and still have no excuse for this.
Thanks mariner67.

My offsite coin photography is just as bad as my inhouse pictures, but these are two of my clearest ones - and one of my worst for comparison.

Take it from a guy that's lived in the area for ten years. If there isn't an event going on or commuters heading to work, it's a relatively sleepy quiet town. Especially on a Sunday afternoon, and during winter, it gets pretty dismal.

Thank you for your comments on the visit. David, I enjoyed seeing the picture of your 1870-cc dollar. A cool coin from year number one! And Kaz I always enjoy seeing a fine cc $20. Coins tie the history all together for me. When I've read that bag marks on cc gold could be from bumpy stagecoach rides in sacks full of gold it transports me to the era!

Concur this mint is a must see. The only complaint I have is not being able to get closer to the display behind all the bars.
It is to bad they moved the coins. They used to be out in the open and it was a great display.
Always a great place to stop and see and glad you enjoyed it and shared your experience.
