Probably Only The Bust Half Whack Jobs Can Appreciate This

Most find the year 1814 Bust halves interesting with all the die-cracks and clashes.
Here is the popular variety 1814 O-108 E/A with no cracks or clashes. Some might call it the prime die-state. And I'm sure some will not. It also has a full eagles head on reverse. Which usually is smooth, along with the top of left wing facing.

Also interesting is instead of the weak area on the left side, the dies look like they were mis-aligned (and stronger on left side) during what might be a set-up strike. I am showing the composite image first, then a closeup of the reverse with the A/E in states. And it being a very handsome coin IMO doesn't hurt either. Please post yours if you have one. So instead of using a loupe to find the blunders...... we use a loupe to not find them. Heh

the prime die state is very tough and though it is called an R2, I suspect that it may be more scarce. If you follow appearances in the market, most E/a's that have been showing up are the 108a's, many or most of which have weak eagle heads...

Folks, is the board software auto sizing your images smaller? For instance..... This composite image I posted is much larger anywhere else. On here it is 800 something.

So you are the one who ended up with this really nice die state example! Very cool! I had been admiring that one for a while.

Fortunately, right after I saw the coin found a new home, I was able to locate a similar prime die state (with the same strike characteristics as well) from another specialist.

Is the reverse die on your example rotated about 15 degrees counterclockwise?

Hi astrorat - Yes I believe the reverse is rotated pretty close to 15% counter clock wise.. If you have an image would really like to see it. Sounds like we may have twins? Oh, and welcome to the "club." Congratulations on acquiring one. I believe these are tougher than written. One member told me the census with the BHNC but I have forgotten what he said.

Less than 10 have been reported, then again, it's not clear how may crazy people are looking for these. The current rarity is estimated to be an R6+ or R7 by some BHNC folks who are die state experts. I will try to shoot an image later this week.
