Still don't understand this set. You can still get a silver proof set and a proof ase for $35 less than the LESPS, plus get the 5 proof brass bucks and the nickle and cent.

So you're essentially paying over $40 more for the packaging?

(Looks like the 2014 is still on sale if you're looking for such a bargain! image )

I got one the first year but not since for the reasons you state. The only thing special is the packaging.

Posted for those who might be interested and were planning on getting one.

Honestly not trying to sound like a smartass, but I know you aren't new, so I am surprised you even stated it like this.

Of course it is about the packaging. Happened many times before and will happen many times coming up.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Well, don't feel too bad, I have an American Legacy set around here someplace... image

Typically, if they repackage coins, there's something unusual or interesting about the new product. If it's a sub-set of coins, such as the ATB proof subset of a normal proof set, the coins are still somewhat priced accordingly, without such a high premium.

There's nothing unusual, nor interesting about anything in this set. They are off-the-shelf coins, which are still available individually.

They are selling. The 2013 sold out at 48K. The 2014 is currently at almost 40K. So someone is buying. I just don't understand why...

I have a 2005 Legacy set. These go way back even to the special 1990s prestige proof sets (kind of like the legacy proof sets) and I think they are part of a subset that collectors want to keep complete is my guess.

Special packaging has always been a draw for the mint...and yes, it becomes costly.

    Cheers, RickO
