I knew which one you meant immediately, without even clicking the link.

MrEureka pointed that out to me the other night, as a possible candidate for my new love token/oddball type set. I'd have loved to have bought it, but I knew it would go out of my reach. It looks like the final price was more than double what it was the last time I saw it.

Some of the really exceptional hobo carvings like this seem to go for strong money!

I am new to browsing the category, and have just begun my first browsing of elongated coins as well. It seems my slide into exonumia is complete and irreversible now.

I just wish they'd quit with the damn skull carvings already. Just try finding a modern hobo composition that doesn't have every head in the design carved into a skull. And most of them are clumsily done.

Hobo coins aren't my thing, at all, but I do admire the nice artwork.

Very nice artwork. Not $740 nice to me, but nice. I wish I was that talented. I could pretty much drill a crooked hole in a coin, that's about it.

    That is really, really cool!

Lots and lots of nice carvings coming out lately.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

He should have used a 1954 half, since the movie "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea," which featured a giant octopus, came out in 1954.

  • After I looked at the OPs' link I went on a maddening ebay binge (just looking) at all the really ornate carved coins. It is amazing some of the detail that is being produced even on smaller coins. Some are very expensive and some not so much. The craftsmanship is top notch on many and has renewed an interest for me.

I will have to do more research on pricing so I can make som smart choices but like usual if I really want it, well lets just say the wife won't be happy.

Can we get some images in this thread to sow some of the artwork being done as continued conversation on this topic will be helpful to many.

  • I will start off with this 1937 Buffalo as it seems to represent many in our hobby.
