Another dealer in town bought this 1959 Hubbard Hubbard Medal which I then bought awarded to
"U.S. Navy Explorations 1955-59
For outstanding service to science
in exploring vast south polar regions
and establishing scientific stations
for the international geophysical year
Admiral Arleigh A Burke, USN
Chief of Naval Operations
Rear Admiral George J Dufek, USN (Ret)
Commander US Naval Support Forces Antarctica
Washington D.C. February 4, 1959"
They were presented their medals at the White House by President Eisenhower.
The medal itself was made by Medallic Art Co. and is a whopping 390 grams of 10k gold.
