grade in on my 1827 bust half

I FLOPPED
as it came back cleaned au details
good for the soul & humility as they can't all be winners
$340 in with grading...sure would of been a hit if it straight graded

i really dig this one though as it has sweet luster and the reverse fully cartwheels even has slight color to it...it's a keeper to me
an 1827 gets a pass in my book...even had them put the O-133 on the label

i didn't see no parallel lines one sees on forms of cleaning where coin was wiped
huge shout out to busthalfbrian for calling the overton for me and he even advised me not to send it in
sharp one that busthalf master brian is

Throw that sucker in an album for a year, looks good to me but my standards are pretty low.

    Bummer.

For a 188 year old coin to look so bright and shiney just ain't right.

exactly... unless its been "conserved" then it looks dull and ugly

I don't think I would have sent it in but it's still a nice coin.
I see many, many obviously cleaned bust halves in straight graded holders. (More than any other series.)

Happy to help, Teddy. Sorry grading didn't pan out. Stick in a kraft envelope and set it on a window sill, and then forget about it for a year or two. The longer the better, usually. Maybe give it a quick dip in Acetone before letting it 'cook'.

good for the ego i say
i need to study it close(er) to see what i missed exactly on it

looks like it had spent some time in album as there is natural retoning around the date already
    c'est la vie

highest grade details on something so early probably got the best of me

    you bet though there brian
i wanted you to know...you called this one perfectly

    Yes, definitely too bright.

Still, mighty nice, sharp details there.

Certainly dipped, only signs of mechanical cleaning I can see are a few hairlines in the obv field; I agree that a mellowing in a paper envelope would probably help and she might pass muster at the TPG one day. image
  • Needs a Kraft envelop, sun, and a little time on a window sill....

More info on the o-133 for those who are interested
