Maybe there should be a common sense standard. That's much more rare, especially on this board.

Natural forces of supply and demand are the best regulators on earth.

  • The government shouldn't provide corporate welfare for companies who refuse to pay their workers fairly. If a corporation decides it only wants to pay its workers $8 per hour, then the workers won't be able to make a living and support themselves. They will get welfare from the government. When the government allows corporations to get away with paying Scott Walker wages to their workers, they are just sponsoring corporate greed.

When a miner's face is covered in soot as he crawls out of the tunnel at the end of his shift and he is coughing up his lungs, republicans like Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, and Scott Walker tell him, "I'll give you 3 dollars per hour. Now stop whining." The far right really thinks there should be no minimum wage at all. If the minimum wage were raised to $11/hour and indexed for inflation based on the CPI every year, these people wouldn't need welfare. But republicans think that paying workers a living wage will destroy the economy and lead to massive unemployment.

Republicans are busy telling democrats to stop wasting money, yet every year republicans decide we need to give more money to their religious fantasy land, Israel. The only reason republicans/religious people support Israel is because of their religious fantasies (Judeochristian eschatology). They are convinced by an ancient book that an invisible man in the sky is controlling the universe and he has decided that a special group of people are entitled to this land. They think that by supporting an illegal occupation and continued settlements stealing land from indigenous Arabs, they will be rewarded when they die by a nonexistent God. Republican candidates flock to places like Liberty University to convince crowds of people who think the earth is 6,000 years old that they will be a bigger sycophant to Israel than the other candidates.

Tax religious organizations. Religion is a for profit business that is always involved in politics. Cut tax rates for everybody with a gross income of less than $1,000,000/year. Marginally raise last dollar taxes on income from 1-20 million per year. (41%) Raise taxes on last dollar earned 20-50 million moderately. (42.5%) Raise taxes on all income above 50 million to a final top rate of 44.4%. Remove all the loopholes in the tax system that allow people to write off non-cash expenses. It is a system created by greedy republicans that keeps rich people from having to pay their taxes.

This appears to be somewhat valid:

    Much ado about nothing.

IMO, all major central banks should raise rates 200 bps simultaneously.

I don't believe the greed or the obscene wealth is limited to a particular party. Appears to go hand in hand with power.

Saturday Morning Quiz - Who is this?

Hates corporations, but loves investing in them. Loves raising the minimum wage as a "solution" to welfare and thinks that companies should hand out higher paying jobs regardless of an income statement.

Doesn't see any connection between minimum wage and a low skill set.

Hates Israel and thinks Arabs are indigenous to the Middle East.

An apparent atheist who hates the idea of God. Thinks Christians are all evil Republicans who believe that the earth is only 6,000 years old.

Has a firm belief in progressive taxation and income redistribution executed by an elitist group of overpaid academics (who in turn are owned by their own group of rich elitist ideologs).

Thinks that only Republicans are rich and greedy. Conveniently ignores Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, George Clooney, Ed Asner, Rob Reiner, Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein, Sean Penn, Michael Moore, Michael Bloomberg, Warren Buffett, Tom Brokaw, Whoopie Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Andrea Mitchell, Michael Milken, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, George Soros, Jon Corzine, Leonardo DeCaprio, Al Gore, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, Susan Sarandon, Chris Dodd. The list goes on.

    Interesting, huh?

The only problem with this is that you seem to believe that there are 2 parties with opposing aims. If you believe that the Democratic party would fix all that then you are ignoring the inconvenient fact that when Mr hope&change got elected in 2008 he had a democrat majority in the senate and the house to work with and together they did absolutely nothing. There wasn't a single defender between them and the endzone to stop them from scoring a touchdown but they chose to take a knee on the 50 yard line.image

You are getting your information from Ted Cruz. I never posted anything to indicate I hate corporations. People like you (republicans) think paying workers fairly is a "hand out." Who is this? Most Americans support raising the minimum wage, apparently unlike you.

I didn't say Christians are all evil Republicans. However, most Republicans are Christians. Try to debate that one. Academia is not the socialist enterprise that conservative fools like you prop it up to be. I don't see a connection between minimum wage and low skill set because I know many people who are very educated hard workers who haven't been given good opportunities or offered any good jobs, despite their full efforts. Yeah, there are a lot of rich democrats. Ok.

I hesitate to respond for fear of getting sucked into quicksand............

When you say "very educated hard workers who haven't been given good opportunities or offered any good jobs" you are missing the point. Our country was founded and grew on the idea of Capitalism, Democracy, and Freedom. Those educated hard workers have a choice. The choice was given to them by our constitution. They have a free choice to go out and make their own way versus someone "giving good opportunities".

The main problem with this point of your argument is that you act like these workers are trapped and can't do anything else. If they are so educated and so hard working, they can choose to stay and take it or they can go find a new job or even better, start their own business. This country was founded on the belief that anyone can get ahead through hard work and determination. It was not founded on the idea that someone was going to "give good opportunities".

I like Ted Cruz, but I don't remember ever getting any information from him. Whether or not you agree with his politics, one thing can be said thus far - he votes the way he promised that he would vote before he ever got elected. That's not typical for any politician.

"People like me" understand balance sheets and income statements. "People like me" understand that when rising wages impair the company's ability to make payroll, something has to change, whether it's fewer employees, cutting back less productive product lines, less advertising or cutting back on benefits. Paying a "fair" wage also depends on what a specific worker brings to the table that helps a company produce goods or services at a profit. Most socialists and communists are clueless about productivity and basic finance. This is funny and fairly ironic, especially when you drone on and on about how great some company might be as a stock investment. "People like me", lol.

Christians and Republicans? Whatever. When anyone states that Arabs are indigenous to the Middle East, they truly have no clue about religion or world history. Then they rewrite history to suit their own world view. That's pretty dangerous and it happens all the time. Be grateful that you live in a once great nation. Maybe it can still be saved, but it's not looking good.

    And, let's talk about clueless:

I don't see a connection between minimum wage and low skill set because I know many people who are very educated hard workers who haven't been given good opportunities or offered any good jobs, despite their full efforts.

Please refer back to my previous observation:

"People like me" understand balance sheets and income statements. "People like me" once had to work for a minimum wage that was about 1/5th of what minimum wage is now. "People like me" decided not to remain in the minimum wage job and the best way to accomplish that was to "make myself useful". This entailed doing a lot of crap jobs that I didn't really feel like doing, and even working at the bottom of the ladder in some of those "greedy corporations" working for some people who didn't really appreciate all of my talents.

Eventually, I had to see reality for what it is, and I made myself useful.

You will grow up, but in the meantime it seems there's nothing else you can learn because you already know everything.
