My kinda late 09/2015 Long Beach report

Yeah, I know this show is so last week as I write this. However, we plan a true vacation around many a coin show, where it becomes just one of the activities on the agenda. Me and my wife like going to Long Beach for visiting nearby family along with outdoor activities. This year, we combined the show with a desert getaway to Palm Springs, which was fun. Never stayed there before, but I do see future trips there. Close to Joshua Tree, the mountains and other sights. OK, now to the show and I'll try to keep the details brief. What I write is just my opinions and observations, other peoples results and observations no doubt varied from my own.
This year was a bit different from other Long Beach shows, since I got the early bird email from PCGS that allowed my and my wife to attend the show a day early (Wednesday) and get in early all the other days. This is also the first year I was able to end all the days. We took advantage of the free beer and tacos that were being offered, and I submitted several coins for crossovers. Those results will be posted in a future thread. Note to people who piled 20+ taquitos on their plates - did anyone teach you about manners or gluttony? At least the beer didn't run out!
On Thursday I took advantage of early entry to walk around the floor and try the grading contest at show opening. It was fun, even though I only got 3 out of 20. Maybe the next time. Traffic seemed steady during the few hours I was there, but nothing earth shattering. The Pogue coins and the Tom Reynolds large cent display were out of this world. Way out of my reach eye candy, but cool to look at. We ended up leaving around 1 to jump over to Santa Monica to meet my daughter for lunch, so that wraps up that day.
On Friday, I scoured the floor again to see if I missed anything from the other days. My main objectives for this show were to look for toners, find a decent 1838 capped bust half, and look for some nice coins for the 7070. I did find a few slabbed 1838's, but none of them were calling my name. On Saturday, I finally got a chance to attend one of the PCGS coin classes (the 103 course) and found it to be very informative and fun. Some of the counterfeit coin examples were pretty scary! After the class, we hopped in the car and headed over to Palm Springs, where we stayed until today (09/23). I actually found a decent coin shop there and added a couple more pieces for the 7070.
OK, now for the coins!
This Morgan was bought raw; the Halloween obverse color really grabbed me. The toning looks NT and the coin looks at least a 58, possibly MS.

This Frankie also called my name, loved the pastel tones on this piece. PCGS MS-65 FBL (in hand the lines are full, there is a small smear on the slab):

Now for the Morgan toners. I've seen the other threads where people pooh-pooh these kinds of coins. The last time I checked, no one is making them collect toners and it isn't THEIR money being spent.
PCGS MS-64+ CAC, reverse is blazing white:

I think this is my new favorite in my collection, was in a recent Legend auction too. PCGS MS-65 CAC, reverse blazing white:

And now for a series I like but don't actively collect. PCGS MS-64 BN (looks like a higher grade to me):

Overall I had a blast at the show. A few people I ran into were Lance, Mike Kittle, Dennis King and Amanda Varner (where the Philippines coin came from), along with others. I was the one wearing the 1818 bust half shirt with "Got Bust" on the front. That will probably become my new coin show shirt!

Nice Centavos... The lack of breast detail on the reverse eagle held it back.
Sounds like a fantastic vacation.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Really like your 1881 Morgan's. Are they both from the same mint?

The centavo is a rattler, no?
Elmer you done good!
The coins are nice. I don't collect toned Morgans so I really think you shouldn't spend your money on them (
I really dig the cent, too...my wife is Filipina so I need to add one to my collection.
