Your favorite junk wax card

Slow day here. On the heals of the junk wax box thread, I thought I would see what everyone's favorite junk wax single is.
Mine is the 1990 nnof frank thomas error. An extremely rare rookie variation of a hof player. What's yours?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

    87 Donruss Greg Maddux.

Love the player, it is his rookie card, and great action.

1989 Donruss Gary Sheffield is a close runner up.

    Same reasons.
  • 88 Donruss Gregg Jeffries!! Lol.... I was 14 and was a hardcore hunter
For his RC cards... They still Make me smile though. Good memories

1992 UD Mark McGwire. Horizontal card with an awesome batting shot with the bat breaking as he hits the ball!!

1987 Topps Bo Jackson. Loved Bo, and it was the first Future Stars card I pulled. I thought that rainbow script was so cool. Still love that card.
  • Oh yes.... The 87 T Bo Jackson is awesome. Love looking at it

Mine has to be the 1990 Score Bo Jackson baseball/football card. I remember my grandmother taking me to the card shop for my birthday in 1990 and I got to pick out anything I wanted that was $10 or less. Of course...the black and white baseball/football card was sitting there under the glass with a price tag of $10 on it. It was my prize possession for a long time.

I also really enjoyed the 89 donruss griffey also. Couldn't afford the upper deck one

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

1988 Fleer Tim Flannery and 1993 Upper Deck SP Brian Harper were two of my favorites...

...but my favorite of all favorites in that era...

    1994 Emotion N-Tense Michael Jordan

I opened 5 or 6 boxes of this stuff and was lucky enough to hit the Jordan (I also got Barkley and Malone, but only cared about the Jordan).

If you are like Dan, trying to look through a dirty window screen around some bushes and trees, with leaves, using glasses that are not thick enough, while cooking your grits, you can miss stuff....like whatever is happening over at the Sack Of Suds or on small pieces of cardboard image

Me and a buddy opened a lot of 84 topps wax packs looking for this card. Strawberry was hyped as the next Mantle, and everyone wanted his card. In contrast, I would speculate almost nobody had heard of Don Mattingly in the spring of 1984 except maybe diehard Yankee fans. I had to go through all my 84 cards the following year and pull all the Mattinglys'.

  • '88 Topps Gretzky holding up his new Kings sweater. I think every geek hockey fanatic in L.A. had to have one. Wicked cool hairstyle.

There's absolutely no way I could pick just one card. I love all the junk wax sets and players. I'll post this card though because it represents a lot of the good and the bad from the era. And strictly aesthetically speaking, the 1988 Score set is a monster. Just about every player back then had something about their swing or wind-up that was unique to them and Score did a tremendous job of capturing it right at its most defining moment. I bet 50% of the players in the set could be identifiable if the photo was made to just be a black & white outline of the player. Great photography, too. I love that they composed this shot to include the bat in its entirety.

Super fun topic. Will Clark was my guy growing up, so any of his cards will bring a smile to my face to this day. Putting aside his cards my favorites from this era are:

    1) 89 Pro Set Barry Sanders--great action shot. The colors of his uniform with the orange borders pops.
    2) 87 Topps Bo Jackson--another great action shot and the Future Stars logo is a piece of art (I love the yellow All Star Rookie trophy too). The colors of the Future Star and Bo's uniform look perfect together.
    3) 89 Donruss Griffey
    4) 90 Score Frank Thomas--I know the Topps card is more famous and valuable (at least the NNOF version) but when 1990 Score came out, man that was a cool set. The 1st round pick subset was so clean.
    5) 89 Hoops David Robinson--That was the basketball card in junior high!

    Fun thread....

    A couple quick favorites:

All 3 key Barry Sanders Rookies are classics, but I chased this one really hard as a kid (because Score was too expensive and the Topps version was only in the traded set).

Such a hot card growing up:
