87 topps will remain cheap unless the "steroid era" guys can make it into the hall of fame.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I can actually see the 1988 issues becoming a cheaper alternative to toilet paper by 2050
I don't know if it's true but to me it always seemed like 89 Donruss was always easier for me to find than Fleer. So perhaps there is not as much Fleer out there?
<< <i>1989 Fleer. Hall of fame rookies of Griffey, Smoltz, Biggio, Johnson. Plus you have the errors of FF Ripken, the Treadway Bulls-eye and all the Marlboro Johnson variations.

There is not as much Fleer out there relative to Donruss. I would estimate the Donruss print run at roughly double. A wild guess, but I went through a lot of these cases in the late 1990s, and Donruss was always easier to come by.
I'm going to go with 1987 Donruss. A strong lineup and black-bordered cards.

The prices on those boxes have been creeping upward, and I could see them going much higher. And I haven't seen a sealed case come up for sale in 3 years...as I have been searching regularly for them. They were certainly a more limited, premium product upon release...but the 1988 cards didn't catch on in the hobby and then Upper Deck became the premium product everyone wanted in 1989. Topps eventually replaced the "Big Baseball" line with Stadium Club in 1991.

I agree, 87Donruss has a great lineup for its era and remains in more limited quantities than most other issues of this era. Condition sensitivity and completely hit or miss quality control make it appealing as well.
I still rip a bunch of 87 Donruss and 87 Fleer, brings me immediately back to being a kid completely addicted to BBC. Phew, glad to see how well I kicked that habit.
<< <i>The 1989 Topps "Big Baseball" Series 3 boxes have been the #1 sleeper from the junk wax era for a while. There just isn't a lot of it out there - much more difficult to find than series 1 and 2. It contains the most difficult Randy Johnson rookie to find in high grade (see this month's SMR article on Johnson's cards). It's a $300 card in a PSA 10, and with a population of only 7, that is probably a great price if you can find one for sale. They also contain John Smoltz' rookie....also a pretty tough card (although the centering issues aren't typically as drastic as Johnson's card) and it is $100+ card in a PSA 10.

I was on my iPad yesterday when I saw it so I could not get the link, but I could have sworn it was a Series 3 case. Don't see it now either!!
<< <i>That sounds like a great time! Did you happen to correlate the stars to the boxe numbers? Is it sequential through the 4 boxes? >>
Yes box 1 and box 3 were much better than box 2. Clemens and Puckett were right next to each other in box 1. Centering was best in box 3 for some reason. Box 2 had neither Clemens or Puckett. The only RC I have a shot on a 10 is Orel Hershiser. I have a Clemens that I will throw in to a special submission that should be a 9. Pulled almost 2 sets from the boxes I used it to build one really nice looking set. Only star that I only that I did not get doubles of is Cal Ripken
<< <i>I opened 3 vending boxes of 1985 Fleer today. I love the set. I swear every decent card was a 9 at best though. >>
I'm not looking for gradeables, but am trying to finish my set. Any chance you would have some of these:
