I'd go to your local library and check out some coin books that might interest you. Land on one in particular that sparks your interest and then perhaps purchase your own copy.

An encyclopedia by Breen
A photograde by Bowers
A look into the mechanics from Mine to Mint by Burdette

My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress
The Swiatek, Fox, & Ambio Walker books are all great.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

The late Jay Cline's book on Standing Liberty Quarters is excellent if you are interested in that series.

Swiatek and Fox books along with all 4 editions from the late Jay Cline.
I also have the Breen and Bowers books. I will investigate the rest.
Once again, thank you, Tibor
<< <i>Just have to have a world coin catalog, by Krause >>
While Krause is indeed indispensable, Tibor is way more advanced than that as a Darksider. I happen to know he collects early dated European coinage along the lines of the Levinson book and others of that ilk. He's been my mentor on the 16th and 17th century Hungarian denars I've been playing with lately.
So, since this was posted on the Liteside, I'm guessing you want US coin references?
I like the Q. David Bowers Expert's Guide to Collecting & Investing in Rare Coins (pretty much anything by QDB) and some of the Scott Travers titles. The Breen Encylopedia, of course.
I want one of these "Mega Red Books" I've been hearing about.
LordM: Thank you for the kind words, I have nearly 6 feet of shelf space with QDB books. My post for my B'day never took on the Darkside. Any book recommendation is always welcome.
Hydrant: No party, just a quiet evening with my wife having dinner.
TigersFan2: I will look for the book and look forward to reading it. Thank you.
cameonut: Thanks for the greeting. I enjoy seeing your avatar. Patterns that were not used are some of the most beautiful coins that we never produced on a wide scale.
The goloid composition dollars are some of my favorites.
