Resealed Packs??

Ok guys, recently got in a few more boxes from someone I have gotten all my unopened material from. Well, in this box of 1982 Donruss I found this PIECE OF PAPER between 2 cards in one of the packs.
What do you make of it?

My first thought is 100% these were resealed as I can see no other way this slip of paper found its way into this pack.

    Seems suspicious. Never seen printers scraps like that before

    George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • Yeah, this isn't printer scrap. That stuff is handwritten.

    Waiting to hear back from the guy I got the box from.
  • I've deciphered the code using a Beckett to search for the hidden words.

    2 = You
    11 = Got
    M = Ripped
    C = Off

    why reseal 82 donruss? seems like a waste of time
  • While I completely agree with you I can still see someone doing such a thing.

    Was this a BBCE box or a regular wax box?

    I've opened two boxes of resealed 89 Topps Hockey.

    Maybe it was searched at a time when those cards were actually worth something.
  • I am not going to say where I got it from until I hear back from them. I am hoping they make things right with this as I am a LONG time customer and have spent thousands of $$$ with them.

    I could see someone resealing it to take all the Ripken rookies out (obviously there were none in this box). Best card in box was sadly a Kent Hrbek rookie.

    36 Wrappers +Empty Box + Lot of Common = Low Cost
    Box of 36 resealed packs = High Cost

    That's just the inspector's tag. Maybe Donruss had their factory next door to Haynes??

  • Pretty sure it is not an inspector's tag, it is a random piece of paper with writing on it.

    Looks like they were practicing their Jordan autograph. Resealer and forger?

    ...or its the rare 82D "2-11 M C Test Issue." Could be worth big bucks.

    ...and I'm sure you know this, but I'll say it anyway.

    Your source, even if he sold you a resealed box, did not necessarily do it themselves or know that it was in that condition. Hopefully, this is the case and they make it right with you. I know that even the best of the best make a mistake now and again.

    You said you'd reveal who they are after they had a chance to respond -- I would say that either way they respond would be very valuable information. If they don't make it right, people would want to know. If they do make it right, it's good to know that they are a seller that stands behind their product.

    Wow, a 1982 Donruss insert 1/1. Nice pull.

    Sorry...couldn't resist.
  • I agree, I don't think they would have resealed it themselves. I think it is a one-off box that got by their authentication process. No biggie as long as I get a new box in return.

    It seems unlikely that a resealer would include this scrap, even by accident. If this is the only suggestion of possible resealing, I don't think it's enough to reasonably demand a new box. Have the company re-review the other packs, if you trust them.

    I'll play devil's advocate.

    Is it possible that this was used to separate stacks of cards in the loading machine and got left in and subsequently ended up in a pack? I spent time working at a printer one summer in my yute and we always had some kind of scrap to separate one batch from the next inserted. We'd leave it sticking out so we could remove it but I could see one slipping in. Do you still have any packs from this box left? How did the roller marks look? The corner folds?

  • Open up some packs if they are centered and mint you won't have to send them back.
  • All valid points. Have been emailing the seller who was thinking the same thing as they said they have seen this before although it is very rare.

    Right now I am looking at what cards I got to see if it seems like a "normal" box. It was 1982 Donruss and I got zero Ripken RC, Stewart RC, Smith RC, Rose or Ryan but three Hrbek rookies. I haven't opened enough of this year to gauge what a typical break would yield.

    Unfortunately all packs were opened as this was found in one of the very last packs.

    I think collation was as bad as 81, you could get 20+ of a handful of cards in a box or it could be 'expected' distribution (several doubles, a couple triples, but mostly one of each). Collation is useless as an indication or resealing for that issue.
  • Aw sheeeet! That's mine.
    It was a reminder to pay my Master Card bill by Feb 11th.
    My bad.
    How da HALE did it get in your pack???

  • So after discussing it with the seller they are going to send me a new box free of charge. It would be really difficult to know 100% how the piece of paper got in that pack and where the fault would lay so they offered another box as a gesture of good will.

    That said I really appreciate the effort BBCE put into resolving this matter with me. Steve is definitely a stand-up guy and will continue to get my business.

    Are you saying this was a BBCE sealed box?

  • Hory Sheet was it really a BBCE Box
