Paypal raising rates

segojasegoja Posts: 6,112 ✭✭✭✭
Going to 2.9% + $.30/transaction. For me that's a 30% increase.

this is for all merchants and no volume discount applies

Guess I'll be shopping around, unfortunately with E-Bay sales, it's another hit. I'm sure E-Bay won't be far behind.

    In the shop, it's convenient.
The credit card machine cost more with fees.
Smart technology and mobility dictates .
Take it on the road. There are other available options, but not many cheaper.

    It ( PayPow ™ ) is global
Just saying. We have to go with the flow.
It's never cheap letting others handle our money.
A bank on the go has fees just like the brick 'n' mortar banks.

Of course, you could always take the APMEX and other Bullion Dealers Route.

As sold if paying by bank wire or cashiers check.
    +3% if paying by PayPal
+?% if paying by Credit Card.

That's what the rate has been for at least the past year... $0.30 + 2.9%. That's what I've been paying at least since August 2014.
    I love the 3 P's: PB&J, PBR and PCGS.

Ditto...it must have been one of those high volume seller discounts when paypal and ebay were in cahoots.

I currently pay 2.2% + $0.30 per transaction. Depending on volume, I believe there are three discounts, 2.5%, 2.2%, and one at 1.9%. I think to get to 1.9% you had to be getting payments of $100,000 or more per month through your account.

What is Visa or MC charging for an in house operation? How many personnel would you need to handle all your cc transactions, along with disputed or fraud transactions?

BTW most of us "small time" sellers, will not see a rate increase...It will remain the same, and what a bargain, at 2.9% +$.30.

    edited for the decimal spot

I'm at 2.5% so it's only a 16% increase for me (only :Funnyimage

Check out BuyPass from First Data Corporation for your CC processing. But 3% is pretty much average unless you're Wal-Mart

My goal is to be done selling on eBay this year and I hope I can be done before they raise the rent again.

While it may seem trivial, it amounts to about $4200/year in increased fees for me.

Put differently, that's about 3 months rent.

    It's not small potatoes

Did you get this in an email? I haven't received anything yet and am also at 2.2% so yes it does make a big difference!

I don't have a business account, but I get a discount for every month I accept more than $3,000 in payments and get processed @ 2.2%

They don't show the fees anymore, but I see in their help section they have a sliding scale of 1.9% to 2.9%

If a refund I send is accepted, are the fees from the original transaction credited to my account?

You receive credit for your original transaction fees based on the kind of refund you issue. When you issue a full refund using the Issue Refund link on the Transaction Details page, we credit your full variable transaction fee (1.9% to 2.9% of the transaction amount).

Mine normally runs 2.2 to 2.5 depending on volume, if I can hit 10k in month, I get the 2.2 following month.

Actually paypal is pretty tight on their discounts! It is a running total and if your volume is above 10K at the time you get 2%....fall a dollar under and you are at 2.5%. It's not a month to month thing!
