Last year for Gold Eagle ?

Just had a customer in the store that said he saw on TV that
this will be the last year for the $50 Gold Eagle,
to be replaced by the new Lady Liberty $100 Gold ounce...
Anyone heard anything about this ?
(sorry if this is old news) LOL

Major coin publications have not reported such news. Lady Liberty is a one time commemorative issue. Would not take much stock in the TV sellers until a respected coin publication relays the news from the US Mint. Other possibility is your customer misunderstood what he heard on the TV.

I don't think of the Liberty HR as a commemorative.... it does feel like the mid 80s stuff. If it sells at spot down the road then Ill be at near full agreement.

Hsn guy know for erroneous statements

He once said a group of proof sets were the lowest price in say, 20, years but the date range was only say, 15, years

The relevant federal statute calls for a fifty dollar gold coin containing 1 troy ounce of gold

They should start offering AGEs in HR!

The regular bullion AGE's are in low relief requiring only a single strike unlike the American Liberty HR which requires three strikes which is more expensive production cost. Since productions costs are a consideration it's unlikely there will be any change,

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

The striking of AGE's and ASE's is now at the pleasure of the Secretary of the Treasury. If they ended the gold eagle, emphasis would immediately shift to classic 90% 1 oz gold coins or gold Maples, Onza's, Corona's, Philharmonics, etc. All it would do is cut the USTreasury out of the profit loop. 1 oz gold coins are already sort of too big/too costly as it is (ie less divisible). A 2 oz/$100 face coin would make as much sense as a 2 oz bar.

Just sell the HRs for a higher price, no problemmo.
