Are you referring to all of the off-topic threads here?

I remember when precious metals topics sort of overwhelmed the coin forum about 10 years ago so the PM forum was created. Is it time to start a general finance and economic policy forum? I'm guessing that's where Mr. Willis will draw a line in the sand and come crashing down on general econ topics. That is, if they start to overwhelm this forum.

Personally, I don't really care either way as all of this news does seem to tie in with metals.

    Huh?????

Check the original title of the 10,000+ thread that began in late 2004. It's labeled the "gold and silver world news, economic predictions" thread. It never was just a PM thread or forum. This probably should have been labeled the "precious metals and economic forum" The main thread that gave life to this forum in 2009 after 5 years of toil were all over the map in the economic area. Go back and read it if you don't believe it. I linked it below. Currencies, commodities, interest rates/bonds, inflation, deflation, FED reports, BLS, CPI, jobs reports, taxes, businesses, money aggregates, etc. all play a role.........in the PM markets. And what fun is it to talk about how much PMs fell the previous week or the latest fancy round out of Englehard? After 4 years it gets old. Can't just talk about that and the latest "metal porn" or swapping bullion seen and the B&M stories.

The original "Gold and Economics" thread started by GoldSaint in Dec 2004 was the means to pull together all the various topics involved. After Dec 2004 there was no plethora of topics cluttering up the Coin Forum....it was just one monster thread. And you didn't have to read it if you didn't want to. I suspect 90% of forum members ignored it. Gold was a barbarous relic in 2004 anyways. From 2009-2015 the second major thread with that same title has been around. But if everyone wants to start bringing the MAIN thread back up as the "PM/economic" discussion thread of the day, I'm all for that. It puts everything in one place and will reduce thread count a bit. Out of the 30 threads posted on my main page, I see only 4-5 not related to PMs in any real way.

I agree that everyone's new acquisitions does get old, but I just remember the coin forum getting overrun by bullion threads several years ago. Don't recall the year. And I'm not against general news of the current economy, as I said, it all ties in together. I read them all and enjoy them. I just wonder if it will be too much off topic for a message board that's about metals.

There was about a year or two period where I wasn't here at all so I may have missed the "one thread for all PMs" thread. I just recall a time when PM topics really dominated the US coin forum and then the metals board formed. I'm glad it's here though. Outside of some circulated Buffalo nickels, a circulated seated quarter and a circulated barber quarter, the only other coins I own are gold and silver bullion.

    Edit*

Looking at all topics since July 1, there are only a very small handful of threads not concerning metals so I guess it's not as bad as I originally thought, and the ones that are about something besides metals have metals and other commodities tied into them so we're probably doing fine overall.

I would normally agree with that. But, since last week I called "economics" a voodoo science, I can't support you....without undermining my previous statement. image

One could go further and say sociology, psychology, demographics, etc. are related topics as they play a huge role in PMs.

This is what should be done, imho.

Yes, I'm all for the nostalgia part of it all that rr brings up, but that was the past. The Precious Metals Forum has evolved out of that thread being referred to...a Precious Metals Forum, not a thread developed out of a "PM/economic" discussion thread.
I guess you could say it's all semantics, just getting a little too OT imho...but who am I? Just thought it was worth mentioning for discussion.

Precious metals and economic news are interrelated and will always be fodder for this forum..... Cheers, RickO
When they are truly interrelated, I agree. But to just say what stocks are being played that have absolutely no direct bullion relation belong on a different Forum

Great buys on PM's will be the norm for awhile. Get use to the declines.
