If I was Pete Rose I would not want to go into the HOF

Seriously. Everyone knows you are a HOFer for your on field work. You make over a million dollars per year signing autos (according to ESPN). You are being talked about every year that the HOF announcements come up and will probably be talked about more than any other player because of this. Life is good, isn't it? I think if he makes it he will fade away and will never have the press that he gets every year. JMO

The truth, though, is that the HOF is the single thing he is most obsessed about about at this point in his life. You can bet on it..

The question for me is.... Has the value of his cards dropped or went up due to him not being in the hall of fame?

    Shane

  • Early Rose cards have been going up noticably within the past two years. If he got in, his cards would skyrocket even more but I'm sure level out and after that and we would probably see minor movement just like a Willie Mays or a Ted Wiliams card although it would never lose value. The next big jump would of course be because of his passing and then once again, it should level out soon after. I think that a main reason why his cards will always be high in value and in demand is because of his notoriety and the question of wether he belongs in or not. Kind of like Shoeless Joe Jackson. I am positive that his Cracker Jack card is a lot more expensive is because of the controversy surrounding him as well.

    +1

I could have not have said it any better. I will say that Pete is desperate to get back into baseball in any capacity. He eats, breaths, and sleeps it. But, I also agree that he is indeed his own worst enemy. If he has come totally clean in 1989 and did whatever MLB asked him to do, whether it be counseling or rehab, I feel we would not even be discussing this now. He would be a long-time member of the HOF.

So true Tim, his life has been a series of obsessions... which is often the case with addicts. What's ironic is his actions have always demonstrated that he doesn't really care what other people think about him (especially the media), which is exactly what an induction to the hall would be. Life is funny.

Put him on the ballot to stop the whining...if he doesn't make it, he'll have something new to complain about

I was at the all star game the other night and couldn't wait to see what the reaction to Rose would be. Even in Cincy it was a mix of cheers and boos. No doubt more positive than negative but just shows how polarizing he is.

I'm 100% of the opinion he shouldn't get in, but I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him.

At this point I'm not sure how important the HOF is to Pete. Quite frankly, Pete knows he is his own worst enemy and will likely not live to see it.

As a player, he should be in. There are a lot worse people in the Hall. Cobb who hated everyone was a big time racist. Enos Slaughter led the protest to not let Jackie Robinson in baseball. Then you have tons of guys that were drug abusers. Two players that always pop out to me who used "greenies" are Willie Mays and Mike Schmidt. For goodness sake, let him be elected into the Hall. It doesnt mean he has to be allowed back into MLB.

That goes without saying! LOL He deserves to be in the HOF just for getting her to marry him! Can you imagine any other player marrying a hot asian Las Vegas stripper? image

True. The worst blow-back would be the frosty reception he'd receive from his HOF peers sitting behind him on the stage.

I don't think he ever gets in. A lot of people blame him for stressing out Giamatti to the point where he fell ill. He'll be the Shoeless Joe of the 20th century and will be remembered more for his gambling than his playing.

Giamatti fell ill because he was a two pack a day smoker.

I miss the show Pete Rose: Hits and Misses (I believe that was the name) about Pete, his wife (I guess they got married) and family. The last few episodes never made it to air, but I saw the first several.

I don't think Pete getting in would help or hurt his ability to earn money. I also don't think it would have any impact on his card values.
