New to forums, new to ripping, need help

I've been reading this forum for a long time and finally decided to pony up and bye some wax trays to rip. They should be here today and I will post photos of them before ripping.

What site should I use for hosting photos?

Should I use card saver 1 or 2 holders?

Should I just keep the packs sealed?!

Thanks and be gentle image

    1) Photobucket or Dropshot.
    2) CS1. Not just for submissions, but the extra room is just easier to insert and remove.
    3) I wouldn't know.

You bought them to rip so rip them!

Good luck with the packs. If you don't have your card savers yet I would wait to open them until you do.

I hate card savers and use toploaders with soft sleeves

I use Tinypic.com. Never had a problem. Photobucket is probably used by most board members.

I agree with the other responses, CS1s have more room and protect the card well.

Unless they are '52 Hi Numbers, rip away! lol

Good luck. As David suggested, a good idea to get the CS1s prior to ripping. Looking forward to seeing the rip.

You do need help... DO NOT RIP!! Just kidding and welcome. I use Imgur for photos... not sure about the other sites, but you don't need an account to upload photos there. And if those are 79 trays, please DO post some photos/scans.

The guys that rip on the board are a whole lot more fun than the guys that do not........

We could always use more vintage pack rips around here! Best of luck!
  • Welcome, I echo most opinions on the board. Card Saver I's are my choice and ripping is fun so if you are looking for sets then rip away.

The packs are here and came from BBCE.

This year must be especially tough, even the wrappers are off-center in the first tray. That can't be a good sign can it?!

When you strip off that cellophane, breathe deep and the gum smell will bring you right back to the summer of 1979!

Tray packs are the best from my experience. I've pulled lots of 10's from 1979 baseball and football. That's my take

With "eat" being the operative word there because it definitely won't be chew-able! image

  • All commons so far. Here's a scan of the best centered cards from pack 1.

    image
  • Pack 2 had an Eckersley in it, way off-center thought, and these 2.

    image
  • Nothing to show for pack 3. Oh well, it was fun!

Here are the ones I won't have submitted.

79s are always tough but you have some very sharp mint to possibly gem mint cards in that group~good luck if you decide to submit and thanks for sharing the results!

Thanks for sharing. No star power, but a few of those commons look REAL nice. Good luck if you submit them!

  • Good morning and thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. I was a little bummed by the lack of star power but hey it was only 1 wax tray.

I think I may have gotten bitten by the pack rip bug!

I would eliminate the Sosa from the submittable pile. That is pretty rough for 3 packs. Your luck is bound to change sooner or later, though~don't get discouraged.

Will do, it's too off to the right - I was reaching with that one.

In other news, I'm determined to find some centered stars and I have no option but to throw more money recklessly at the challenge. So here are 6 more 1979 trays to rip. Those members with weak stomachs look away.

Atta boy. You inspired me to rip an 80 tray the other day. I too had disappointing results, as most cards had a light grease stain on one corner. You got a good handful of clean, centered cards though.

    Good Luck!

I'm hoping the amount of time between posts is because the OP is ever so carefully sliding that Smith RC into a CSI..LOL..

  • Sorry for not being quicker with my responses and with my ripping. I'll get to it as soon as possible I promise.

As for an Ozzie RC, if I did ever pull one I'd probably slide it in the CS1 as fast as possible as my heart would stop beating while I was handling the card!
  • Got through 3 of the wax trays and only have 1 centered card to show for it.

    image
  • Finally got to ripping those last 3 wax trays. Hit about 7 centered commons this time, scans to come later.
