1875 $20 Double Eagle From, From Rust to Glorious Gold

I really should have taken images before I started on this piece. It came in a lot of $20's that were all cleaned/damaged/coated in rust. After 2 hours of restoration I am quite happy with the results. Lighting in my office is not optimal for imaging gold but gave it a try anyways. I think it might have shot at MS60-61 I don't want to tease myself with the idea of a 62 or 63 money. Either way it was a steal at MELT!

Jinx: It appears that you did an excellent job of restoring your 1875 Type 2 Twenty Dollar Gold Double Eagle to uncover its mint luster.

I'm guessing that one of the top tier TPGS's would net grade her an AU-55 to 58 because of the numerous contact marks on the obverse, although your coin may technically grade MS-60.

Either way, congratulations on getting a great deal by purchasing her for melt. image

The rest were all really common dates 1888 1904 stuff like that. Only 3 others were worth saving.

Nice deal. The bigger gold dealers pay at least 4% over melt for "jewelry" quality generic $5's, $10's, and $20's. This one is a lot nicer than "jewelry."
