“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly."

- Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106-43 BC

1901 Pan American Exposition, Buffalo, New York, Electric Tower & Rooster Medal, 34mm Diameter Aluminum.

This is only the third example of this very rare naughty medal I've ever seen with the reverse "Presented For Having The Largest Rooster" This medals reverse was used later in 1901 on a even rarer to locate challenge coin for going over the Niagara Fall. The obverse showed Niagara Falls and a barrel to emulate Annie Taylor the first person to take the plunge. The example here is in lower circulated grade and was most likely carried as a pocket piece for fun to boast.

Here's my Pan Am medal-got it off ebay several years ago at a super bargain price. Here's also some associated Pan Am items that I've accumulated over the years. Aside from the medal I particularly like the cover which I call "Buff in a Tux." I think all the designs are inspiring. As much as I like the bison on the Buffalo nickel I think MacNeil's version is much better-sure would have looked nice on a coin.
